FLORENCE SIGRIDUR BURKE (nee SOLVASON) 1915 - 2014 It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our grandmother and mother Florence Burke on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the tender age of 98. Florence was born May 27, 1915 in Winnipeg. She was a woman with a heart of gold and she worked hard to provide for her family for whom she so loved. She also had a love of dancing and even later in life, you could find her still busting a move. She will also forever be remembered for her wicked sense of humour and cheekiness. Florence was predeceased by her husbands, Frank Burke and Grant Davis, her parents, Arman and Marte Solvason, as well as sisters, Thelma Hjalmarson and Helen Larsson, brother Arman Solvason, and sisters-in-law Jean and Marie Solvason. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa Davis), Amber, Michele, Stephen, great-grandchildren Alex, Danika, Tia, Morgan, Emily, Jordan, Dylan, Curtis, Matthew and Brooke, her son Jim Davis, her brother Palmer Solvason, nieces, Robyn (Warren), Janis (Brent), Susan, Lisa, Judy (Jim), Betty (Gord) and nephew Arthur. We would like to thank the staff at River East Personal Care Home for their loving care of Florence. We would also like to thank Marie Best, Tammy Fraser and Margit Stein at Royal Bank Ellice Branch for their help and caring over the years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Florence's name to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 224-1525

Sorry Jim, to hear of your Mom's passing and I'm sorry not to be there as well. Best I remember of Aunty Florence was her love of animals especially dogs. Aunty Florence lived pretty close to our "farm" it being on the edge of town. We has a dog called Bing who was always getting into fights with the "town dogs". He got into a real big scrap one time but it was to Aunty Florence's house he went to get repaired! - Posted by: Art Solvason (nephew) on: Feb 20, 2014

I have nothing but fond, wonderful, silly, fun, happy memories of Florence. She had the biggest heart fueled with the most passion for the things and people she loved. She always made me smile and will forever have a special place in my heart. - Posted by: Cassie B. (Former caregiver ) on: Feb 19, 2014

She was very helpful with providing winter clothing for my three children and whatever they needed. She loved to go bargin shopping at Eatons and the Bay downtown. She truly had a heart of gold. She was there for me whenever I needed her help. I liked visiting on weekends and staying overnight and I would knit and she would Crochet, have a few drinks and dance. For her 90th birthday I sent her One Helium Balloon for each grandchild and great-grandchild at the time. It said happy 90th from all your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Florence told the driver that there must be a mistake, these balloons would not be for her. He managed to convince her in the end. She took them and laughed and I called her later. I told her you're only 90 once and you have never had balloons given to you so now you have. I am really going to miss her, and she is now at peace and dancing with Frank as that was the last smirk Kevin got when he whispered into her ear on her last day on earth. Love ya MOM and you'll be forever in my heart. Lori - Posted by: Lori Marsic (Former Daughter in Law) on: Feb 15, 2014
