I took Dr. Hansen's social development seminar at the University of Winnipeg in 2007. I enjoyed her class and research and became her honors thesis student in 2008 - working on a project about moral responsibility and culture. I still recall how many "red marks" and "track changes" she made on my thesis document. In winter 2023, I will "inherit" (teach) her course "Seminar in Social Development" and pass on the hard work and inspiration she had to all the future students at UW. - Posted by: Fanli Jia (Former Student & Advisee) on: Nov 28, 2022

Kristine and I lived together for a few years, with our partners, when our sons were toddlers and afterwards we were neighbours until she moved to Winnipeg. I always enjoyed her visits back to Vancouver for the great food and wonderful conversation that ensued. We only got together twice in the last decade, both times in Winnipeg. It saddened me a great deal that the retirement plans she had were dashed, first by her own poor health and then by the unspeakable loss of her only son. I was grateful for the chance to see her last summer while we were mourning Adam. - Posted by: Drena McCormack (Vancouver housemate, neighbour and friend) on: Mar 23, 2014

Kristine has been a dear friend of mine for close to 40 years. We met in the 1970s as students at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, and kept in close contact after finishing our Ph.Ds. We worked together on research articles and attended many interesting events in many different places. Kristine was one of the brightest and, more importantly, kindest persons I know. I spoke with her on the phone shortly before she died. Little did I know that this would be our last conversation. Kristine will always be in my heart. It was a great privilege for me to work with Kristine at Uwinnipeg. I found him thoughtful, insightful, funny and kind. When I first arrived at Uwinnipeg, Kristine heard that I loved coffee. At our first meeting she brought me a bag of gourmet coffee beans procured from a local independent coffee house. Given that she did not know me, and that I was new in town. I found this to be a great act of kindness. After that, we usually met over a cup of coffee, working together to solve common problems in a friendship spawned by her kind heart and considerate nature. To her family, colleagues and friends, I extend my deepest sympathy. I know that when I think of her and I'm tempted to feel sad because of her passing, I will pick up a cup of gourmet coffee, drink it and think of her smile. - Posted by: Brian Stevenson ( Former colleague) on: Feb 26, 2014

I was fortunate to be a student in Kristine Hansen's social development seminar when I was an undergrad at the U of W in the 90s. Her warmth and her passion for teaching made a lasting impression, and certainly shaped my career goals. She will be missed. - Posted by: Sandra Wiebe (former student) on: Feb 26, 2014

I loved Kristine and will carry her in my heart always. Kristine was a fan of pigs and during her hard times my job was to supply her with the appropriate pig photo to offer comfort or lift her spirits. Pigs were our secret language. I will never see them the same way again. - Posted by: Lisa McGifford (Friend and Co-worker) on: Feb 21, 2014

The Department of Psychology at U Winnipeg was saddened to learn about Kristine's passing at much too young an age. She was a valued colleague and mentored many, many students over the years, all of whom will also be saddened by this news. Kristine's bravery in the face of much adversity over the past few years was truly inspirational. - Posted by: Jim Clark (Colleague and Friend) on: Feb 21, 2014
