CARTER ANDREW HOLDSWORTH February 20, 1995 - February 20, 2014 After a year-long battle with cancer, Carter passed away peacefully on his 19th birthday at Riverview Health Centre, with family at his side. He will be forever missed by his father, Mark Holdsworth; mother, Kelli Holdsworth; girlfriend and love of his life, Niki Taylor; brother Zack Lyzun; sisters Maya and Jayda Anderson; along with his grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and many close friends. Carter grew up in Winnipeg and attended Queenston, River Heights and Kelvin High Schools. He was a happy and popular kid who always had a group of friends around him. He was an avid hockey player most of his life and loved the outdoors. Carter spent many summers at his cabin on Lake Winnipeg where he enjoyed fishing, quadding, and hanging out with family and friends. Later in his teen years, Carter developed a love of music and worked hard to become an accomplished bass guitar player. This love of music introduced him to the Winnipeg Folk Festival, where he served as a volunteer for two years, and fostered a lasting friendship with his first music teacher, Derek Kun. Carter loved to travel and made several trips to Halifax to spend time with grandparents (Joe and Joan Paquette) and his aunts, uncles and cousins. These trips were very special to Carter and he held them close to his heart. Carter had aspirations of going to university and becoming a police officer. Unfortunately, cancer hit him hard and he was never able to pursue this dream. Carter desired a service in celebration of his life. In keeping to his wishes, a Memorial Service will be at Caboto Centre at 1055 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carter's name can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or The Winnipeg Folk Festival. I met Carter in 2010, when my friends and I volunteered to coach his hockey team. After observing Carter on the ice, and interact with his teammates in the locker room, it was clear to us that he should be named team captain. Carter was a natural leader, and a fierce competitor. I can recall a few occasions where he had pushed himself so hard on the ice that he became sick on the bench, but refused to miss a shift because he was afraid of letting his teammates down. Carter had an infectious smile and a fantastic sense of humour; witty as they come. I speak for many when I say that he often would brighten my day through his optimistic passion for life. It is no surprise to me that he aspired to be a police officer, as this altruistic job would have suited his caring for others. Carter's passing is extremely tragic, and this city has lost a stellar individual. I would like to express my condolences to Carter's family. Rest peacefully Carter, I was honoured to be your coach and friend. - Posted by: Ethan Pollock (Hockey coach) on: Feb 23, 2014

Carter was a wonderful boy and student. I remember him like it was yesterday. He had an amazing smile and I loved having him in my class. One thing I remember about Carter was his ability to write beautiful poetry. I wish I had kept some of his work. He was always so happy and loved to chat with me about things that made him happy. Everyone liked him and wanted to be around him. He had such a personality. My memories of him were when he was about 9 years old. I will never forget his smile, those cheeks. He was a sweetheart. My sincerest condolences to the entire family and to his friends. - Posted by: Marianna Vieira (His Grade 3 teacher.) on: Feb 23, 2014

I was a lucky person to have met Carter, he was a wonderful young man. Sad that he had to leave us so early but the memories he left behind will always be there. It is hard to see him go but I know he's in a much happier place resting and waiting to see the rest of us. - Posted by: Shannon Zabolotny () on: Feb 23, 2014
