Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN PHILLIPS (nee ASSELIN) Born in St. Boniface January 26, 1947 On Wednesday, February 19, 2014, after a valiant and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis, we announce the peaceful passing of Doreen at the age of 67. Over many years she braved and fought this debilitating disease yet remained positive. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Cecil (Piche), and her siblings. Doreen was free spirited and in her early years travelled the country. Living in Toronto, Vancouver and Nova Scotia but always returned home to Winnipeg. In 1975 she returned to stay. Doreen loved to dance to the music and have a good time with all her friends and relatives. When it came time she moved back into the family home to care for her mother. It was then the MS was diagnosed and the battle began. She never gave up hope and had a strong belief and always said when I get better. Once the disease became too much and she could no longer manage the family home she moved to Dakota House (assisted living). There she met and made many new friends. She loved living there was able to enjoy six years socializing with the residents. She especially enjoyed having brunch with the girls and visits with her long time friends and relatives. After a brief hospital stay in April 2013 she was placed in Action Marguerite nursing facility for full time care. Doreen loved animals especially cats. She was a generous person to her family, friends and donated to many charities. Thanks to friends and relatives that stayed in touch and visited, and a special thanks to her devoted friend Bob whose weekly visits kept her spirit alive. Thanks to the caring and compassionate staff and friends at Dakota House and Action Marguerite during her time with them. Cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest with her mother. At Doreen's request a private celebration of her life will take place at a date to be determined. If friends desire donations can be made to the Humane Society or MS Society Edward J. Coutu Funeral Home taking care of the arrangements.

Yes I sure enjoyed spending time with Doreen back in 1988, 1989 somewhere in there when I first moved to Winnipeg and I was able to help her get to a service at springs where she attended back when they were on St. Anne's Rd. I sure enjoyed hearing her love for The Lord Jesus and loving life and living life for him. I know she is in heaven because she knew Jesus personally as Lord and saviour without a doubt, because without him we will not spend eternity there. Thank you for all the great comments from family and friends - Posted by: Ritchie kolesar (Third cousin) on: May 11, 2014

I am so glad I visited you the week before you passed. You are now at total rest and peace, exactly what was prayed for. We shared many great times for many years. You were my bridesmaid at my wedding. I am sure you were greeted by many old friends, angels, and many little kittens. Will miss you. Love Beverley Bettens. - Posted by: Beverley Bettens (Friend) on: Mar 10, 2014

I am deeply saddened by Doreen's passing and at the same time am relieved that she no longer has to endure the pain of this terrible affliction of MS. She is undoubtedly at peace now and in a much better place. I will always remember Doreen as she was in her younger years, full of vitality, confidence, determination and always living life to the fullest. RIP Doreen. - Posted by: Yolande Pestaluky (Second cousin) on: Feb 22, 2014

I didn't know Doreen personally, although she is related to my wife. I did know of her struggles with this awful disease. I know when she arrived in the hereafter that she was immediately placed in the special place for MS patients. It is a beautiful field with flowers, sunshine and bird songs. Where there is no more pain, fatigue and muscle spasms. Where she can walk again and live a wonderful life. Enjoy that place Doreen, God bless. - Posted by: Frederick Keep (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2014
