BERNARD SCHILKE Bernard Schilke, aged 74 of St. Andrews, MB passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014.He was born in Winnipeg to the late Herman and Matilda Schilke, May 9th, 1939. In addition to being a loving father and devoted husband he was a "busy body", who loved nothing more than maintaining his home and yard, repairing seemingly unrepairable lawn equipment and going to car shows with his brother. Like most men of his generation he was reserved, hardworking and passionate about every project he undertook regardless of the outcome. To him there seemed to be nothing more gratifying than a job well done. Bernard is survived by his wife Denise; two children Chris (Elizabeth) and Geoff ; one grandchild Logan; one brother Donald (Margret); three sisters Beverly (Bob), Margret (Jerry), Darlene (Terry) and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a private service has been held. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Just wanted to say how extremely sorry I was to hear of Uncle Bernie passing. Although I didn't spend a great deal of time with Uncle Bern, I know that at all of the past family functions he was a really great guy and I always enjoyed his company...what I remember most are the times when I would travel to Winnipeg to play hockey, it seemed that he was always there to watch, to go out for a bite to eat, to drive for a visit with Gram and Gramp Schilke, and he always was very happy and giving and joyful about everything...especially my Grandpa..and that's something! I am sure that Aunt Denise, Chris and Jeffery, Uncle Don and Auntie Margaret are missing him and healing, but wanted to make sure that although we are far away, you know we have been thinking of you lots in our thoughts and prayers.... My dear friend Denise, We shared so many wonderful times during our dinner parties with you & Bernard. We remember the cherries jubilee dessert and loved it. He was so surprised at the last birthday we shared with you and it was such a good time. I know you will miss him so much. May you be comforted by your family & friends at this time. We are thinking of you in this sorrowful time. Fond regards, Norm & Donn - Posted by: Norman & Donna Kyliuk (friend) on: Feb 23, 2014

Dear Denise, it has been many decades since we have seen one another. Garry worked with Bernie at Sears and we both lived in Pinewood Place in St. James and we spent many fun times together. We were both shocked to learn of Bernie's passing. We are so very sorry for your loss and send our deepest condolences to you and your family. Last few months I was writing a short history of my growing up in Brooklands. I had some school pics and like many people, did not put names on the back of them. I could picture Bernie as he was part of our "gang". We had a lot of fun back then. Armin Sachse - Posted by: Armin Sachse (Way back to high school days) on: Feb 22, 2014

I was deeply saddened to hear of Bernie's passing. We worked together at Sears in the sixties and I remember him as being cheerful and pleasant, always taking the time to say "hello" to his co-workers. My sincere condolences to Denise and family. - Posted by: Maria Rose Anderton () on: Feb 22, 2014

Too young. We grew up together and attended the same school, worked together at Sears. He was part of the gang that hung out together where he grew up. Bernie was a great guy and I'm sure he'll be greatly missed. There are lots of stories that could be told. Again, too young. - Posted by: Bill. Mitchell (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2014
