MARIA OSICKI It is through the compassion of our Lord God that has decided our mom is to now rest in the sight of eternal salvation. Mom went on her journey in passing from us on earth on February 26, 2014. Mary leaves behind, her sister Jane, son George, daughter-in-law Dionisia, and grandchildren Tobiasz, Amanda and Aaron, great-grandchildren Allula, Ian, and Cole. She was predeceased by her husband Jan, son Richard, and brother William. Mom was the ideal of all a mom is. She had a beautiful childhood in the Kresy lands of Eastern Poland. She had felt there the wonder of nature and the way her family worked, played, and prayed with many different peoples and religions. She taught us how to always try to be just and determined, to support diversity and help those who needed us most. Mom was shipped by cattle car at the beginning of the Second World War into the gulag which she survived only with much determination with her brother and sister while the entire rest of her family and friends lost their lives. She was able to flee into Persia then Africa then serving in England in the Royal Air Force. It was only years later that she found her sister Jane and brother, Bill being finally united in Canada in 1951. Mom then ran our home while Dad fought for Poland's freedom while being and working as a patriotic Canadian with all and any of his many waking hours doing volunteer work. Mom let us dream our dreams and supported our efforts with a heart always inspired by the love for the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We will always miss Mom but, then again, she is always with us as well. We thank all the staff of Riverview Health Centre who have cared for Mom and showed their love and concern for her. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m. at the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Interment will follow at the Holy Ghost Cemetery. We only got to know Maria after the untimely death of her beloved son Richard on Oct. 29, 2012, our friend, brother-in-Christ and McLuhan Initiative collaborator. There are very few people whom we feel like we've known all our lives and whom we count among our special friends; Maria was such a person for us, a hardy and radiant "flower in the garden of life" giving joy and sharing a zest for living to others in spite of her own many hardships. We are most grateful for the privilege and honour it was to accompany Maria, however short this time may have been, and for the warm welcome she always gave us. May she rest in peace and may God grant her memory to be eternal! Sincerely, Howard & Esther - Posted by: Howard R. Engel & Esther G. Juce (family friends) on: Mar 04, 2014

Mrs. Osicki was a beautiful young lady. She loved her family and was proud of them. It has been a joy to talk to her over the last 2 - 3 years. Mum Osicki was a lover of the Royal Family and I enjoyed sharing my "Hello" mag with her. - Posted by: W. A. Stewart (co-worker of her son.) on: Mar 03, 2014

My deepest condolences to Dionisia and Toby, to George and family, and to all of Mary's family. Mary was a dear lady and it was my pleasure to get to know her, even if it was only for a little while, now in her last years. I appreciated her kind heart, and her desire to make the best of her situation. I also felt inspired by her sincere devotion to God. May God bless and comfort her family, and everyone who knew Mary. - Posted by: Betsy Bergen (friend ) on: Mar 01, 2014

I have known 'Aunt' Mary all my life. She and my mother served in the Polish Air Force in the UK together, and continued to be life-long friends when they both ended up in Montreal. Sundays were always a special time, as our families would share a meal and the afternoon together. After my parents moved to Kingston, and 'Aunt' Mary moved to Banff, we all lost touch for a few years. So I was happy to reunite with her once more when I moved to Winnipeg. I was one of the few people that she had the opportunity to speak Polish with and it was something that she very much appreciated - to speak in her mother tongue, and to share the stories of her past with me. I deeply enjoyed our visits together, as she was one of the last links to my past and my parents' world. Her last years were difficult ones, and she bore the hardships with stoicism and dignity. I am happy to know that she is free of pain now, and reunited with her parents, husband, son and other loved ones who have gone to eternal rest. She will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Heartfelt condolences to the entire family, Krystyna - Posted by: Krystyna Szypowska (Family friend) on: Mar 01, 2014
