MAVIS EILEEN EGER (nee MCLENNAN) 1925 - 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Eileen on Saturday, February 22, peacefully with family by her side. Mom was born in Elmwood on February 13, 1925 and lived in Winnipeg her entire 89 years. She attended Lord Selkirk High School where she excelled at sports including track, high jump and basketball. After high school Mom went to Commercial College and then had a short career at the CP Express. She married the love of her life Earl Eger on May 8, 1948 and shortly there after moved to Fort Garry where they raised their three children (Brian, Beverley and Brent). Mom's competitive spirit continued later in life. She was an avid curler at the Wildewood Club in Fort Garry. "The Club" became a hub of their social life where they spent a considerable amount of time and where they met many of their life long friends. Mom also enjoyed her weekly bridge games with her close friends and knitting afghans and baby clothes for her grandchildren. What Mom cherished most was spending her summers at their cottage at Whytewold Beach, enjoying time with family and friends. Her favourite pastime at the cottage was playing cribbage with the kids, and feeding and watching "her" birds. Mom and Dad loved to travel and visited many countries, but Mom's favourite place was Hawaii. They first went to Hawaii in 1967, and it quickly became an annual event. Mom leaves a legacy of love and memories to her family, daughter in law Pat, daughter Bev Schubert (John), son Brent (Brenda), sister Viola Barker (Bill), sister-in-law Rolla McLennan, brother-in-law Tom Paquin, sister-in-law Maryanne Boaler (Norm), long time family friend Ken Dunn and numerous nieces and nephews. Family was the most important thing in Mom's life and she especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her grandchildren Cameron, Kent, Todd (Shona), Lindsay (Karl), Hayley (Brady), Sondra and Evan and her great-grandchildren Aelysia, Gabrielle and Kashton. Mom was predeceased by her husband Earl (in 1998), her beloved son Brian (1996), brothers Allan, Neil, Tom, Orville, Malcolm and sister Marg Meyer. Special thanks to all her friends at Sterling House where Mom enjoyed many enjoyable years. Also thank you to the fantastic staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and the Riverview Health Center who gave Mom tremendous care in her final months. In keeping with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will take place at a later date. We will love you forever THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
