Rene is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Mark, her son Ryan (Maria), son Brett (Ashley), and granddaughters, Tatianna, Kylie, and Mia, and her mother-in-law Donna Henderson, all from Winnipeg. She will also be sorely missed by her mother, Kay (Scharback) Maber, her sisters, Elaine McNeil (Will Oddie) from Regina and Lorna King (Ed Palibroda) and her brother Kevin Scharback from Saskatoon. Rene was predeceased by her father Frank Scharback in 1975, stepfather Roy Maber in 1999, and her father-in-law, George Henderson as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents. Rene was born in Allan, SK in 1949. The family moved to Saskatoon in 1955 where Rene attended school at St. Francis and then Nutana Collegiate. Rene completed her R.N. Diploma at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg in 1972. She returned to Saskatoon where she married and had her two sons and worked at University Hospital, the Saskatoon Medical Arts Lab, Extendicare Nursing Home and the Cominco Potash Mine as an occupational health nurse. Rene married Mark Henderson in 1986 and moved to Winnipeg in 1987. Rene loved her children and her nieces and nephews who remember her as a very generous, caring and loving aunt. Her granddaughters were the lights of her life and she was so proud of their accomplishments. Rene was extremely giving, loving and unconditionally supportive to everyone in her life. She loved having family and friends come together, making the Henderson home the community gathering place for all. Rene and Mark travelled the world together but her favourite place to visit was Maui where she and her family spent many Christmas vacations. Rene and Mark also hosted many extended family events in their home. She was an avid gardener always able to produce blooms from various perennials in her flower beds, and looked forward to spring time every year. In April 2012, Rene survived a life threatening surgery but she continued to require nursing care until her passing. Many thanks to the staff at Winnipeg's Deer Lodge Centre, 3rd floor Rehabilitation Unit and the 3rd floor Continuing Care Unit for their excellent compassion and care of Rene and her family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillvray Blvd. at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Brain Injury Association of Canada or a charity of your choice. Rene was ALWAYS smiling and laughing. We fondly remember Rene in her flowered (Maui looking) dresses; gardening and looking up to wave and to "catch-up" on what was going on. She had an extremely big heart, and Rene and Mark were always sharing their successes with others and helping so many with such generosity. Rene was a wonderful friend and neighbor and we will always have a warm spot in our hearts for her. - Posted by: Larry and Laurel Reid (Friends and neighbors) on: Mar 21, 2014
