RICHARD NORMAN SWEENEY October 13, 1942 - March 1, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Norman Sweeney on March 1, 2014 at the age of 71 years. Richard was predeceased by his father Norman, mother Mona, and sister Clover. Left to cherish Richard's memory are his loving companion Darlene, brother Patrick, his four children: Bradley (Sherry), Rodney (Lisa), Dale (Deanna) and Richelle, and stepchildren Angela (Chris) and Darryl, as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Richard was born in Winnipeg and made many friends at New Flyer, where he worked until his retirement. He looked forward to spending his summers in Gimli, where he loved to sit on his deck, visiting and sharing a bottle of Vodka with his lake friends and family. He enjoyed his life to the fullest and will be missed dearly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Richard's friends for their support during this difficult time, as well as the staff at the Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Richard's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day Street at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name to CancerCare Manitoba. "May tender memories soften your grief, May fond recollection bring you relief, And may you find comfort and peace in the thought Of the joy that knowing your loved one brought... For time and space can never divide Or keep your loved one from your side. When memory paints in colors true, the happy hours that belonged to you."
