NEIL DIDUCK Neil Diduck passed away early evening on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the age of 55, surrounded by family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Florence. He will be sadly missed by his loving children, April and Michael, his father Steve, his sister Lynne and her husband Randy Lasuik; his nephew and niece Jordan and Stefanie, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Neil was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where he lived for the first 15 years of his life, before moving to Winnipeg in the summer of 1973. He began working for Sears Canada in October 1979, beginning his prominent and rewarding career spanning almost 35 years. Throughout his career, he became close friends with many of his co-workers, who became his family away from home and who were by his side throughout the entirety of his life, all the way up until his untimely passing. A lifelong fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, he enjoyed watching and playing both football and golf, and spent many afternoons either in the backyard or on the links with his family and friends. Neil had a heart of gold and was always known for helping out those around him, lending a hand whenever he could. He always had kind words for everyone. We would like to extend special thanks for those who visited him during his last days; especially to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital, who went above and beyond the call of duty for him. A memorial service for Neil will be held at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg, MB on Friday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Neil's memory to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I am heartbroken over learning of Neil's passing...we will never get to go to a Bombers game as we had promised each other we would. I worked for Sears for 38 years in Thunder Bay Ontario, most of it in the Craftsman Centre as Neil did in Winnipeg...that is how we met, when I would often attend training meetings in Winnipeg for Sears. I recall our first meeting in the Polo Park mall, I think about 25 years ago, I thought what an awesome kind man....we always kept in touch via email or phone through Sears...he was always so good about giving me a call at Sears to see how I and my business was...compared to his! As time went on and I had my children he would take an interest in them, always asking "how's the boys" especially as they grew older and got into football. My oldest is 22 and attends a university in the U.S. where he plays football and my youngest at 18 is the QB for his high schools football team...no wonder Neil and I connected! I last spoke with Neil in early Jan of 2013, he knew I was leaving Sears by March 2013. We exchanged our home email addresses so we could stay in touch and we did a few times, not often enough though. I sent him a message in Feb of 2014 after the "mass" packaging out of most long term managers but never heard back from him, I wondered if he was ok? and I wondered why I didn't hear back from him...now I know. I only learned of his passing through a fellow Thunder Bay manager this spring. I was in shock and am still so sad for the too early loss of a great man. One who so easily becomes a friend and touches one's heart, as he did mine. My condolences to his family. I wish I had met you so I could have told you how much I loved your father, uncle, sibling, son as the great friend he was to me. And I'm sure you know...how smart he was. A great business man he was. Wishing Neil much peace, but hopefully time for sports in heaven and wishing his family great memory's of him. Go Bombers! (my team) but I guess I should be saying Go Rider's, in honour of Neil. Love Kristine - Posted by: Kristine Postans (i'd like to think...a very special Sears friend, and we were) on: Oct 25, 2014

  • Steve, I was shocked to find out about Neil's passing. Throughout the years I've often thought of Neil and your family. I wish I had done a better job keeping in touch with him. We always had so much fun together and Neil had such a kind heart. Neil was always ready to play tennis, or throw a ball around. I have a picture of us on my 21st birthday. Seems like so long ago. I will always remember when he caught his first pass when we played with the Lions. I pray that you are doing okay. - Posted by: Rod McDonald (friend) on: Jul 28, 2014

  • My dad and I am so sorry to hear about Neil's passing. He was definitely one of those people that you always remembered. Always had a laugh and genuinely nice. I met him when he worked with my parents and he was even at my mom's hospital bed when she was diagnosed with cancer. He was just that type of person. We lost my mom a year and a half ago and I know they are up in heaven having coffee together again. - Posted by: Corinne Nykorak (my parents Ardi and Joe Heath worked with Neil at Sears) on: Mar 17, 2014

  • I met Neil when I was 7 years old, I am now 31...he married my mom after she divorced my dad...I remember him taking me to baseball and taking me to school...he always looked at me funny like I was sarcastic and so was he so we had a funny relationship like a common understanding we never said ....I never told him or had the chance to tell him how much he meant to me...my father was diagnosed with schizophrenia when I was 11 and he was a father figure and a very strong influence in my life...he talked me through my first period ...bought me hair dye at 12 at night when my hair turned green..and picked me and my friends up when we didn't know where we were..no matter what he was always there I wish he would have stayed in my life but I think he felt I didn't need him anymore after the divorce..but I did I will always miss him I hope he knows how much he influenced our lives ...he has two daughters Christina and Tanya and he will never be forgotten - Posted by: Tanya Cassidy (step daughter) on: Mar 15, 2014

  • Neil was a very special friend who did indeed have a heart of gold. We enjoyed lots of laughs at Sears over coffee. My sincere sympathy to the family. • So sorry to hear of Neil's passing. I worked with Neil in the 1980s and we grew to be good friends. After I transferred from Winnipeg we stayed in touch by email until I left Sears but we visited when I was in Winnipeg. Neil was a kind and caring individual whom all of us will missed. I pray you are at peace my friend and that each of your family and friends remember all the good times they shared with you, God bless, Darcy and Laurie. - Posted by: Darcy Smith (Co worker and friend from the past) on: Mar 09, 2014
