JEANNETTE EWASIUK (nee KOLOMAYA) It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and baba on March 3, 2014 with her family by her side. Jeannette is predeceased by her husband Peter and survived by her children, Patricia Stadnyk (Eugene) grandchildren, Brennan, Dustin (Tanesha) and Jasmyn, Perry Ewasiuk (Lori) grandchildren Brayden and Chelsea, Jade Ewasiuk (Louise) grandchildren Dana, Kale, Katarina, Ryan Mcbride, Michael Mcbride and great-grandchildren Ava, Taya, and Ty. Jeannette was born and raised in St Martin. She loved school and her life on the Kolomaya farm. After a short time "gallivanting" and working in Winnipeg, she found the love of her life and married Peter on May 28, 1953. Her life took on many new adventures. Her and Peter worked hard for a couple winters in fish camps on the Great Slave Lake, NWT and when they returned they purchased a rundown building and turned it into a grand institution known as the St Martin Café. Any one that visited the old café would meet the hardest working, most generous, fun loving and compassionate woman. It would be impossible to leave the old café without fond memories and a full stomach. Jeannette truly touched and fed the lives of many. Mom was the pillar in the family and the community. She was a constant at weddings, socials, funerals, picnics, anniversaries (you name it) tirelessly volunteering and often making the best holobchis and perogies on this planet, and always livening up the party. And party she did because her belief was that we should all live life to the fullest. Cheers to a socialite! Our family will forever admire and stand proud of our mother and baba. She squeezed every possible minute of her life to care, nurture and guide us. We can never thank her enough. It was difficult in the end to witness her struggle and to see the care giver become a care taker. Our hearts are broken but we will endure. God bless you mom. We would like to thank friends and family for their support and visits, with special thanks to the nieces and nephews that traveled from outside the province and the USA. We wish to thank Dr Andrea Babick for compassionately caring for mom. We acknowledge and thank the professional and wonderful staff of Riverview Health Center. A celebration of Jeannette's life will be held in the St Martin Community Hall on March 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. • I still can't believe your gone Baba. You always gave me so much love. I have many memories of you and Papa, going to the cafe with you after it closed down, going with you to Gypsumville when you helped a friend with home care. Home will never be the same without your laughter, barley and cabbage soup, and your hugs and kisses. Thanks for taking Ryan and I in as your family. I'll never forget you. • My Auntie Jeannette was our absolute favorite Aunt. Her big smile and twinkling eyes were so warm and inviting. Oh and could she cook, we couldn't wait to sit down to one of her meals. Auntie exemplified the phrase "live life as if you are dying". She did that every day, enjoying life to the fullest, yet taking time to care for others. Although we moved to the States when we were young, Auntie made numerous trips to partake in the important events in our lives. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts and will be deeply missed. My sincere heartfelt sympathy to the Stadnyk, Ewasiuk and Kolomaya families. I know how difficult it is to celebrate her life without her in it, but it's our memories of all the wonderful times together that soften the sadness and keep her alive in our hearts and minds. - Posted by: Valerie Cochran (Niece) on: Mar 13, 2014

  • Jeannette was the first St. Martin person I met, when my husband Tommy took me to the St. Martin cafe when I visited him before our marriage. She struck me as a woman with a bounding love of life and a laugh to match. I appreciated her as a friend and will not forget her. My deepest sympathy to all members of her family. • Jeannette and her family have a special places in our hearts. We often reminisce on the good times we had with them. We went to St. Martin as newly weds with no money and rented their little house. Jeannette took me under her wing. A second mother you could say. What a lovely person. Always with a smile and a good story. She even got Pete to put up poles in front of their cafe so I could practice my parallel parking. Got my driver's in Gypsumville. Celebrated Ukrainian Christmas and New Year's with Jeannette and Pete and other family members. We could go on and on with our stories of Jeannette Ewasiuk. We will try to attend Jeannette's celebration of life as she did put "life into our lives". God bless our Jeannette. - Posted by: Madeleyne and Fred Fillion (Friends and tenants (1972-1973)) on: Mar 08, 2014
