CATHERINE ELIZABETH COX Peacefully on March 6, 2014 Catherine (Kay) Cox slipped away to join the love of her life Edgar. Mom leaves to cherish her memory her children Sheila, Linda (Don deceased), Carol (Terry) and Tom (Sharon). She will be sadly missed by grandchildren Shauna, Ian, Kim, Trevor, Jill, April, Marlo, Bradley, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Predeceased by her husband Edgar, of 62 years, son-in-law Don, grandchildren Jennifer and Rebecca. Mom was born in Winnipeg on June 9, 1927. She grew up in Norwood on Kitson Street and lived there until she met and married dad on August 17, 1946. They moved to Transcona where they raised their family. Mom was a wonderful homemaker. Weekdays were filled with washing, ironing, mending and washing floors. We loved Saturdays best of all because it was mom's baking day! The aroma of cookies, cakes and pies filled the house. When mom wasn't busy in her home she bowled on the ladies league at the Transcona Bowling Alley. She loved to line dance and swim at the local pool a few days a week. In the evenings you would find her knitting, crocheting or sewing. Mom and dad liked to travel and as their family grew and spread their wings they would drive to Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton or Texas to visit. Mom's very special place to be was Victoria Beach where she enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, walks along the beach and watching sunsets. Mom faced many challenges in her life due to health problems. She met them with grace and courage setting an example for her children, grandchildren and all who knew her. Her last four and a half years were spent at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff on E2 for the wonderful care they gave to our mom. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
