GERRITJE (GERRIE) VESELINOVICH (nee BUSSER) Gerrie, our beloved mother and Oma, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 17, 2014, at her home in Selkirk, Manitoba. She is survived by her son Peter, his spouse Tammy, and their children Curtis and Amanda; daughter Jeanette and her children Christopher and Michelle; sister Henny (Henry); brother Marinus (Joyce), and many nephews and nieces. Mom was predeceased by her husband Steve in 1995, as well as her parents Harman and Jeanette; brothers John, Richard and Herman, and sister Wilma. Mom was born in Barneveld, Holland on August 18, 1930, and immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings following the Second World War. It was in Winnipeg that she met her soul mate, Steve, and they married in 1961. Throughout her life, Mom was devoted to her family, encouraging us to be the best that we could become, and treasuring every moment she had with us and her grandchildren, who knew her as Oma. Great story telling, delicious baked treats and lots of hugs were a mainstay. Mom was very devoted to her church, Christ Lutheran, and actively participated in church committees and fundraising. However, her real passion was actively supporting programs to assist those less fortunate. Skilled at knitting and crocheting, she undertook the creation of the mitten tree, a program where she organized donations of materials that she and later, others, used to make mittens, toques and scarves for distribution at inner city schools in Winnipeg. Several hundred sets of this cold weather gear were provided to needy students over the years. A perpetual volunteer, Mom supported the operation of a food bank based at the church, and serving those in the greater community. She also participated in shut-ins visitations and the church outreach programs. Mom also cherished her relationships with many pets over the years - all adopted - and needing love and support, which she freely shared. Thank you to the members of Betel Home in Selkirk for their caring and support of Mom. Honorary pallbearers are Bruce Curle and Robert Gavin. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba. Interment to follow after reception at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Mom will be sadly missed, but in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society are greatly appreciated. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

We always enjoyed chatting with Gerrie and Wilma Sunday mornings at church and remember her mitten tree very well. A lovely lady of strength and determination. Our sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Janet and Randy Hilderman (friends from Christ Lutheran Church) on: Mar 20, 2014
