STANLEY (STAN) NETSKAR Peacefully, in his sleep, on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Red River Place Personal Care Home in Selkirk, Stan Netskar a life-long resident of the Selkirk Area. Stan was born on July 28, 1920 in Selkirk, MB and it was there that Stan and his brother Joe operated a farm until Joe passed away in 1999. Stan continued farming until the ripe age of 90. He was a very committed and hard working man who loved farming and all aspects related to agriculture. His passion was his dogs as they provided him with companionship. Stan loved taking them for short trips to town or even packing them up and taking them to his favourite winter retreat - Quadra Island, BC. Like his quiet and private farm property in Selkirk, his homestead on Quadra Island provided him with the same peaceful and relaxing environment. Stan was a very private person but always enjoyed when family and friends visited him. His parents John and Anne Netskar; brothers Mike and Joe; sisters Frances Skuba, Mary Roznik, Kay Portree; brother-in-law Joe Roznik; nephew Willie Roznik; niece Jane Saunders, and great-nephew Lee Saunders predeceased him. Stan leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews. A service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB with Fr. Stan Gacek officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be buried at Notre Dame Cemetery in Selkirk, MB, at a later date. The family wish to extend a special thanks to the staff at Red River Place Personal Care Home for all their care and compassion. As tokens of sympathy, donations in memory of Stan may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, (204) 982-2021. Stan will always be a great friend to me and every time someone would visit he would welcome them to sit outside on his swinging bench and loved to watch his dogs run and play around the yard. It would give him great pleasure to have the dogs jump up on the bench, sit beside you and kiss you on your face. Only then did he know if you were on the same page as he was with nature. One day during harvest Stan had me come out and help with the cutting of his Barley crop. It was a beautiful afternoon and Stan was watching with his dogs from the edge of the field. As I went up and down Stan would marvel at the new crop and would stop me from time to time to talk about how great everything was, this was the season he seemed to enjoy the most. As the day went on and evening closed in, I had about half the field cut. Then I suddenly noticed Stan lieing down between the two swaths motionless on his back. Alarmed I stopped the swather and ran over to see him and to my surprise all he had done was find a nice mellon sized rock for a pillow and was having a nap. He looked up at me and asked me why I had stopped cutting and if I was ok. - Posted by: HERB KROEKER (FRIEND) on: Mar 24, 2014
