Born: Feb 11, 1924
Date of Passing: Mar 29, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE PITURA (nee BILOWCERKOWICH) It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Anne Pitura on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Holy Family Home at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her children, Terri (Bryan) Okurley and grandson Graeme (girlfriend Liz), Wally Pitura (partner Cindi), Patrick (Jennie) Pitura and grand-daughters, Stacey and Jillian. She also leaves to mourn one sister, Elsie (Mike) Pitura of Edmonton and two sisters-in-law, Elise (Walter) Bilow of Winnipeg and Doreen (Joe) Pitura of Kelowna, BC. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1978; parents, Gregory and Dora Bilowcerkowich; brother Walter; brothers-in-law, Peter, Joe and Mike; and sister-in-law Kathleen. Anne was born on February 11, 1924 in Winnipeg and attended St. Nicholas School graduating in 1942. She worked for many employers in her lifetime such as Swifts and Christie Biscuits and then in the food services with Eatons and the International Inn. In 1950, she married Walter Pitura and began raising her family. She was a great cook and loved creating all kinds of wonderful soups. Being Ukrainian, we were never without perogies or cabbage rolls, baking of all kinds and her favorite, cheesecake. Our Mom loved to garden, sew, knit and crochet doilies and afghans which are now our treasured keepsakes. She loved the movies especially the comedy antics of Laurel and Hardy or the Marx Brothers. Mom loved her budgie birds and canaries of which we had many, as well as, the dogs that knew where the treat cupboard was. She loved all children; especially her grandchildren whom she spoiled endlessly to the end. Mom was the most selfless person, never complaining and always caring about her children and grandchildren without favouritism. Through good times and bad she had a heart of gold and we were blessed to have her as our Mom. She was very independent and lived life on her terms until this past December when she could no longer manage in her home alone. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff of Unit 2A at Holy Family Home for their compassionate care and dedication in understanding the needs of our dear Mom during her stay. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue with Rosary at 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street. If friends so desire, donations can be made in Anne's memory to Holy Family Home or to a charity of one's choice. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044
