STEVE DANKEWICH February 17, 1928 March 31, 2014 With family by his side, Steve passed away peacefully at home. Left to morn are his wife of 55 years Lucille, daughter Lisa (Rolly) Lacroix, son Denis (Daren), son Danny, and treasured grandchildren Kristy, Roque, and Steven. Steve was predeceased by his parents Dan and Anna and brothers Eugene, and Mike. Also left to morn are his brother Arthur, sister Helen (Tom) Bialek and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Steve will be remembered as the centre of our family and the sun in our universe. Father's parents immigrated from Eastern Europe to Milner Ridge, MB to farm and raise their family. It was from these roots he derived a strong work ethic. The same work ethic he was determined to impart in his children. The desire to travel took father to the Arctic, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans. Industrial safety was his philosophy and his life. From the gold mine at Snow Lake, MB, to the aluminum smelter at Kitimat, BC, to blasting rock on TransCanada Hwy. #1 at Kenora, ON, to the DEW Line a system of radar stations in the far northern Arctic region of Canada. Yes, Steve could tell stories that would make your toes curl. Father and mother owned several homes over the years including Lockport, Winnipeg, and Dugald. Our teenage years were spent in Transcona on Victoria Avenue where Father had a reputation as the go-to-guy when the boys in the neighbourhood needed their cars fixed. He could never turn anyone down who needed help. For the past 20 years father and mother kept busy and socially active on their 14 acre "stump ranch" just east of Dugald, MB. The pride they shared as they decorated the yard for Christmas, gardened or mowed the lawn was on full display to everyone who came to visit the Dankewich Residence. Sadly when father became ill last fall, they had to come into the city to be near the health care services. Our family extends thanks to the palliative care and home care staff for the amazing care our father received during the late stages of his illness. Special thanks to the principal nurse Shannon. A memorial celebrating our father's life will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Notre Dame De L'Assomption Parish, 609 Leola Street, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. www.seasonsfunerals.ca

  • Our prayers and thoughts are with you Lucille and family. Steve was always polite and respectful towards others. He is a true gentleman and a great example for friends and family to follow. We will always remember those times when Steve and Lucille visited our area, especially the time when we all enjoyed a fish dinner cooked by his brother Gene aboard our houseboat on Whitewater Lake. It is an honour and a pleasure to know both you and Steve. - Posted by: Orma & Mike Ross (Friends ( Late Eugene Dankewich's sister in law)) on: Apr 02, 2014
