MERVIN PETER FAVELL Mervin Peter Favell was born on December 22, 1937 to Joe and Vera Favell of Fisher Bay, MB. He was called home on March 31, 2014, at Selkirk General Hospital, in Selkirk, MB at the age of 75 years. He lived in Fisher Bay until the age of 16, and had started commercial fishing at the young age of eight years old to help his family as he was the oldest of the family. His days of fishing took him on adventures on Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba, and various lakes throughout Manitoba and Northwest Territories. While on his travels 56 years ago he met the love of his life, Agnes Simard in Hecla, MB. He was married in Hollow Water and started a family with first born (now deceased) Dean Mervin Favell. He built a home of love and had two more children, Marty Peter Favell, and Laurie Ann Favell. In 1971, when the lakes were shut down, Mervin moved his family to Selkirk, MB, and worked at the Manitoba Training Plant. When government changed hands and funding for the training plant was cut, Mervin's livelihood was threatened thus forcing him to find new employment at Selkirk Friendship Centre where his love of community was shown to all who became involved. Mervin finished his work at Amsco Steel Factory where he remained until retirement at the age of 69. Mervin was active in community and sport, and coached all year round from football, to hockey and baseball. Between coaching his boys in sports, and driving his daughter to sports and activities he was always very active and gave selflessly to his family and wife. Mervin was known for his shocking sense of humour and his talent for music. He leaves to mourn his wife Agnes; son Marty; daughter Laurie (Jon); grandchildren Ryan (Amber), Wade, Stephan (Dolly), Trisha (Jaret), Samantha, Devo (Amber) and Stevie-Rae (Corey); last surviving sibling Ardel Favell and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews who will all share in the loss. Heaven has called another blues stringer back home Service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Jemima St. in Selkirk, MB. Fr. Stan Gacek will be officiating. Pallbearers will include; Devonne Favell-Mowat, Jon Mowat, Stephan Favell, Ryan Favell, Lyle Bruce and James Campbell.
