Walter leaves behind his loving wife, Susan (nee Evaskavich). They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on July 23, 2014. Walter also leaves behind his daughter Katherine, son David (Debbi) and daughter Carol (Gerry) Bonham, as well as five grandchildren, Chelsea (Blake), Tomas, Rhett, Michael and Peyton. He is also survived by sister Stella (Tony) Caruk in Toronto; brother-in-law, Frank Miziolek; sisters-in-law, Frances Evers and Iris Evers; numerous nieces and nephews. Walter came to Canada at the age of 15, served with the Canadian Army in the Second World War, and worked at CNR as a brakeman/conductor. He was a proud member of Legion 141, a retired perogy maker from Holy Eucharist Church, and twice achieved a hole-in-one at Kildonan Golf Course. Walter loved Ukrainian music and sang with the Holy Eucharist Choir for 40 years, and sang with the Cathedral Choir in his younger years. He enjoyed family, gardening, and was a much fabled potato peeler from Holy Eucharist Parish for 25 years. He always said he acquired the skill while in the army. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Watt St. at Munroe Ave. with Rev. Dr. M. Kwiatkowski officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Special thanks to the fire and paramedic team, to the tremendous caregivers at Concordia Hospital and to Dr. Husarewycz for the great care. A passionate and kind soul, Walter will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
