Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNETTIE MELNICK Late April 6, 2014, God called home another angel. At Betel Home in Selkirk, with her daughter Jan and her granddaughter Ginette seeing her off, Nettie left us for the next part of her earthly journey. Remembering her are her husband Dan, of 63 years; daughter Janalee (Ken) Fedorchuk; son Miles (Laurie); grandchildren, Christy (Barry) Woytowich, Ginette (Robert) Helgason, Aaron (Melissa) Fedorchuk; great-grandchildren, Colten and Tiffany Woytowich; siblings, Tony Samec and Elizabeth Yourchenko; sister-in-law Mary Samec, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Welcoming her to her heavenly home are her son Royce; parents, John and Pearl Samec; siblings, John (Marge) Bencharski, Victor (Francis) Bencharski, Mary (Mike) Sidorko, Olga (Phil) Lovenuk, Walter, Jack, Leo and Nick Samec, Anne (Nick) Wowk, Violet (in infancy) and in-laws, Maureen Samec and Jim Yourchenko. Born in Birch River, MB on February 5, 1930 and raised in Hadashville, MB, Nettie left home at age 16 to work in Winnipeg. That was the start of her many adventures. She met Dan on a trip to Whitemouth to visit her brother Victor. She shared a cab that Dan was driving and he took her for a ride that lasted 63 years. They settled in Whitemouth, MB, where they raised their family. Nettie worked at various occupations through the years that showcased her talents for hospitality, cooking and gardening. After "retirement", she also worked with Dan's bus business. Nettie loved reading, sewing, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She always had a project on the go. She couldn't wait for the seed catalogues to come out in January, so she could start planning her garden and dreaming of the bounty to come. As home and garden became too much for them to manage, she and Dan moved to Gimli to be closer to their daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nettie loved her family. She was quietly proud (except when it came to her garden), fiercely loyal and incredibly stubborn. The family would like to thank the staff of Selkirk Betel for their wonderful care and support. Nettie loved being cared for by all her "angels". In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba at http://www.alzheimer.mb.ca/ or The Betel Home Foundation at http://www.betelhomefoundation.ca/. As per Nettie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB. Private interment to be held at a later date. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
