Date of Passing: Apr 05, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) JOYCE HALAS (nee BALL) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty on April 5, 2014. Betty is lovingly remembered by her brother Bruce (Shirley) Ball, her friend of more than 60 years, James (Jim) Halas, her daughters Cindy Hutchinson and Tracy Schipper, grandchildren Matthew, Daniel and Kaylee along with her great-grandson, Benjamin. Betty will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Marian and Albert Ball, brothers Eric and Harold, and her sisters Verna Gower, Colleen Dalli and Kathleen Hastie. Betty was born in Neepawa and grew up on the farm in Arden, Manitoba. When she was a teenager the family relocated to Winnipeg settling in Transcona. She genuinely loved the small community feel of Transcona and spent most of her adult life living in the area and supporting the local businesses. With a zest for living life to the fullest Betty had a variety of interests. She loved to work, learn and keep up with the times. Betty was an avid reader who particularly enjoyed poetry and world history. You definitely wanted her on your Trivial Pursuit team to answer all those tough Arts and History questions. Music was a large part of Betty's life. She loved to listen to the radio, play her records and CD's. Over the years she attended concerts of all sorts, particularly supporting local artists. Coming from a musically inclined family, there were even a few songs written and many a sing-songs had. Betty was a fun, loving and compassionate person who will be sadly missed. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, in Transcona, on Friday, April 11 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice.
