Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES GORDON DANDO James (Jim) Gordon Dando passed away peacefully on April 5, 2014, at 89 years of age, at River Park Gardens, leaving a legacy of love and fun filled memories. Born in Waskada, Manitoba on January 27, 1925, Jim is survived by his children, Ken (Linda), Mary and Doug (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Sheila, Carla (Stephen), Sarah (Robert), Adrienne (Michael), Shawn (Jennifer), Katherine (Martin) and Jason (Kaitlyn); and his precious great-grandchildren, Edie, Lucy, Keira, Charlie, Leo, Anna, Brynn, Grace, Ava and Brooke. Jim also valued his relationships with all the nieces, nephews and cousins of the Dando and Temple families. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mildred, in 2007; parents, Enoch and Martha; brother Grenville (Hazel); brother-in-law Melvin (Jean), brother-in-law Lorne (Phyllis); sister-in-law Ida (Jim) and sister-in-law Joyce. Jim was raised on the family farm, and attended school in Goodlands. He married Mildred Temple on November 17, 1945. Jim and Mildred worked side by side throughout their marriage. They started their married life farming in Waskada, later moving to Melita, as owners of a Robinson Store and in retirement, enjoying many happy years at Lake Metigoshe. In 2002, they moved to their home in Winnipeg to be closer to family. During their 62 year marriage, Jim and Mildred were the model of a successful and loving couple, always together and enjoying each other's company. Jim was a warm and caring father and grandfather; remembered for his love of life, sense of fun, and the smile he always brought to anyone who interacted with him. Jim was active in sports and community activities, serving for several years on the Council of Brenda Municipality. Jim's sense of whimsy was represented in his many wood working projects. He had a special bond with his grandchildren as they were growing up, including "rights of passage trips" in the motor home, spending lazy summer days at the lake, and, skating and snowmobiling in winter. The warm hospitality extended by Jim and Mildred to friends and family, have left us all with many fond memories. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg. Interment will be held at Waskada Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or the charity of your choice. The Garwood family were long-time neighbours of Jim and Mildred at Lake Metigoshe. We witnessed their enjoyment of the lake and their many celebrations with family. It would have been a rare occurance to see Jim out on the dock and not offer us a boat ride or to take us skiing. It was evident that he wanted others to love the lake as much as he did. We extend our sincere condolences to the family. The Dandos will always be a part of our lake memories. - Posted by: Charlene Monds (nee Garwood) (Former Lake Neighbour) on: Apr 11, 2014
