RUTH BESSASON (nee SISSONS) November 6, 1929 - April 10, 2014 Change of Date of Service Ruth Bessason passed away peacefully at Oakview Place Personal Care Home, in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 84, on April 10, 2014. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Karen Bessason, her sisters Helen Howard and Betty Evans, sister-in-law Kay Sissons, niece Laurie (John) Pilon, and nephews Terry (Pat) Howard and Brian Evans and their families. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Hinrik Bessason, her brothers Bill, Clarence and Dave Sissons, and brothers-in-law Irwin Howard and Mervin Evans. Ruth was born to Thomas and Annie Sissons on the family farm near Cypress River, MB, where she was raised. In the 1950s she trained to be and worked as a LPN in hospitals throughout rural Manitoba and remembered her time in Deloraine with special fondness. In 1967 she married Hinrik and left nursing to join him on the family dairy farm near Sandy Hook, MB and to start a family. They had one child, Karen, in 1968. In 1989 they retired and moved into the Town of Gimli and enjoyed walking around town and to the lake shore. After her husband passed away in 1996, Ruth moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her daughter Karen and sister Helen. In her seniors apartment building she enjoyed bingo, cribbage, sing-a-longs, and for a time was part of an in building choir, and took up watercolour painting. She was an avid reader through most of her life. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with a lunch to follow. A private family interment will take place at a later date at the Husavik Cemetery.
