ROBERT MICHAEL JASKA November 23, 1955 - April 12, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Jaska on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Riverview Health Centre. He will be remembered by his wife Kristine, daughter Kandyce, mom Anne, sister Joanne Maksimow (Nick), sister-in-law Linda Matwyczuk (Taras), nephew Derek, niece Alexa, his aunt Kay Alexander and his cousins. Also left to mourn are his special goddaughters Jennifer Davison, Allie Bertram and Andria Bertram. Bob was predeceased by his father Michael Jaska. Sports were always a part of his life. In high school, his soccer team won the provincial title and he later was involved in baseball, bowling and curling. Bob was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching football and hockey, cheering on the Goldeyes during their home games on Saturday nights; but his favourite team was always the Oakland Raiders. He was also a gregarious reader who never went without reading the newspaper daily and at least two novels per week. For Bob, family, his friends and home were always important. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, listen, and share a story or joke. Bob could always be seen tending to the garden and his lawn, or having company on his deck. He tried his hand at a variety of jobs until moving to Carte International. There he best utilized his talents of number skills, having things organized and doing things efficiently and in an orderly manner. Bob was employed at Carte for 30 plus years where he made many friendships. A special thank you is extended to Lockie McLean for his continued calls and visits during Bob's illness. The family would also like to thank Dr. Joel Gingerich and his nurse Cheryl Greaves for all their care and support, as well as the compassionate staff on 3E at the Riverview Health Centre. Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, followed by interment at Glen Eden Cemetery. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., the Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of your choice. My deepest condolences to Bob's family. I too was one of the neighbourhood Zac's (a bit older than Bob), and I remember the cowboy games, as well as the times he came along on the truck. He was always excited and energetic to be allowed to ride with us on Dad's trucks, even the time Dad came home with a load of watermelons to sell door to door. Bob was right there with us to share in another adventure. Later in life, after I moved away from Winnipeg, he often came to visit when I and or other brothers came home to family gatherings. Yes, Bob will be fondly remembered. Be at peace. - Posted by: Bob Zacharias - one of the older brothers (friend since he was old enough to leave his yard on Fountain) on: Apr 23, 2014

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We grew up together, he was like a 6th brother to us. He was always welcome in our home and often joined us on Dad's truck loading and unloading whatever Dad was hauling that day. It wasn't work when we were all together, it was fun! We moved away when I was 15 and when I graduated and moved back to the city, Bob and I continued our friendship. He and I had many adult adventures together, he was my best man at my first wedding because he represented the link to my youth. Thank you Bob for all the times you were there. Bob didn't help out to lighten the work load, he joined in to make it fun! He introduced me to the best Rock and Roll, we went to the bar to see the bands, he insisted we go see Genesis before anyone in Canada had heard of them and we were two of only 3,200 filled seats for one of the best concerts of my life. We worked together effortlessly, partied together with great music and had many amazing adventures. Our lives went in different directions after we were both married but I never stopped remembering him with Love. My condolences to his Mother, wife and daughter and all the many hearts he touched. My sincere condolences to the family. Bob and I were childhood pals back on Fountain street. I would think only Bob's mom and sister might remember me, but I remember, and often think back on those simpler days and the good times we shared. Sleep overs at Bob's, playing Rummoli with Mom, dad, and Bob's godfather, Peter. Playing Cowboys and Indians in the empty lot next door. Bob supplied the toy guns and I supplied the Indians. Usually my brothers David and Henry. Bob and I went in different directions in Jr. High School and lost touch when I moved to Alberta at the age of 17, but Bob always has been and always will be remembered fondly. Farewell Bob. - Posted by: Doug Zacharias, also sister Gail Zacharias (Childhood playmate and friend) on: Apr 22, 2014

Bob was far more than he appeared. I think he pretended to be a gruff man on the outside but he was like the inner part of a diamond where true character is the real worth of a man. I always enjoyed speaking with him and am very glad that I knew him. Enjoy this new adventure, Bob: I know that we'll meet up again. - Posted by: Doug Sparkes (Friend) on: Apr 18, 2014
