STEPHEN DARRELL PORTEOUS
Born: May 22, 1951
Date of Passing: Apr 16, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHEN DARRELL PORTEOUS With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Stephen Darrell Porteous. Darrell passed away quietly and peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the age of 62. Darrell is survived by his wife Sharon; children Chester (Hayley) Porteous, Melanie (Brandon) Rerie and Trevor (Marianne) Porteous; his grandchildren Teale, Lyric, Raya, Nova, Adriana, and Cale. Darrell will also be missed by his brothers David (Marlene), Michael (Marion), and sister Dayce. Also by his sisters-in-law, Mary Porteous, Beverly (George) Batten, Doreen (Gerald) Tober and Bonnie Drewlo, along with many nieces and nephews. Darrell was predeceased by his father Donald Porteous, mother Margaret, step father Eugene Olsen, granddaughters Lexi and Haven, brother Murray and nephew Shane. Also mother and father-in-law Evelyn and Roy Drewlo. Darrell was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 22, 1951 and grew up in the Ashern area. Darrell and Sharon were married in 1974 and resided in Lockport, MB. After welcoming their son Chester they moved to Edmonton, AB for three years, where Melanie and Trevor were born, shortly after they then returned to Manitoba and settled in Selkirk. Dad had a variety of interests from traveling far and wide, fishing, hunting, playing guitar, golfing and recently cheering for the Jets especially since their return to Winnipeg, to name only a few. Some of his time spent with his wife Sharon (Sher Bear) would include Crusin on their motorcycle with great friends, from Ride for Sight, Morden Corn and Apple to a journey to Sturgis in 2000. Recently he joined mom in creating new recipes and helping each other trying to figure out their newest gadgets and could take a pretty darn good Selfie! Darrell spent most of his working career as a diesel mechanic, in more recent years he drove truck, delivering goods to small communities across the province, and enjoyed meeting all the great people along the way. Anyone would say he was a Good Man with extreme patience and a heart of gold. His love for the outdoors was what he enjoyed most along with many road trips with his family. From fishing off the shore with a fire and snacks with his children to loving every minute in the boat catching the big ones and winters ice fishing. Not to mention he was his children's #1 Fan and hockey Dad! He was absolutely devoted to taking all of his children to their sports especially hockey and ringette, their skates were sure to be tied and tightened to perfection and was there to cheer them on all the way. He was blessed with five beautiful granddaughters and most recently his first grandson whom he all adored dearly and was so proud of each and every one of them. "Bumpy" was his new nickname which couldn't be more fitting for the grandpa he was. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. Friends and relatives may pay their respects half hour prior to service, Cremation to follow and private Interment at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darrell's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or to Charity of one's Choice. Mel, Chester, Trevor, Sharon and family members, There is so much love within this circle of family and friends, that is evident from all the stories and pictures being shared through many of the social media outlets. I truly believe that when these stories are shared, those loved ones who have passed sit with us and love together with us in the memories. Keep those memories alive by speaking of them often, as it is in those times we are always together. It is with great regret that we can not attend to be there with you today. Please know that we are with you in spirit and send all our love! Rest peacefully Darrell, you are loved by so many! - Posted by: Rhea & Colin Wenner (Friends) on: Apr 23, 2014

I have nothing but wonderful memories of my Uncle Darrell. My earliest memory was the rides he used to give my cousins and I, picking us up and spinning us around, or catapulting us into the water at the beach. He also taught me and my cousins how to drive, I'll never forget the look on his face when I almost hit the ditch!! He stayed quiet for awhile and then started laughing. I loved that chuckle and will never forget it. Uncle Darrell was such a soft, quiet, kind, gentle soul, who loved children and was always so much fun! I often stayed with my cousins during the summer and other holidays, and I always felt at home and welcome, uncle was always so kind to all of us. Uncle I love you so much and will miss you. To my Aunty Sharon and cousins and their families - may your memories and the love you shared carry you through until you meet again. - Posted by: Candace Oliveira (Niece) on: Apr 21, 2014

Our prayers are with you all at this time of your loss. We all knew that your dad was your biggest sport's fan and a Ringette / hockey dad he was. We will always remember all the chats, at all the different arenas, as our children played together. We always shared our thoughts of the game, over a coffee, or a hot chocolate ! Those memories will be treasured forever, as it made us the friends we are today. R.I.P. To an awesome Brother-in-law, Darrell, we are missing your presence here, but have many fond memories of you. From your big burly stature, great personality, kind spirit, loving and caring nature, huge heart ( and hands), smile and laughter we will never forget, looking back on the many fishing trips to wherever we would end up. Sometimes only getting a booter, shooting the rapids on Fairford River, hunting in the back 40 on the farm, the many cool cars you let me drive to town to show my friends, ( eight track blasting), to motorcycle rides from you, and lately jumping in the semi for a chat when you delivered for Co-op down the line on Hwy 6. I was always proud and thankful to say you were my brother-in-law. We all love you and will miss you so much, but will never forget you. Rest peacefully, you deserve it. Keep on Fishin! Keep on truckin! Slim - Posted by: Beverly Batten (Sister-in-law) on: Apr 21, 2014
