MARIA (CHITA) BERENA August 31, 1951 April 19, 2014 On April 19, 2014, Maria peacefully passed away at Riverview Health Centre, surrounded by loving family and friends at the age of 62 years. Maria leaves behind her brothers Bert (Ellen), Bong (Medie), and Rhodel (Luz); and sister Rosie (Alex). Her memory will be further carried on by her nieces and nephews: April, Andrew, Nathan, Nash, Ruby, Mae, Joanne, Christine, Tonton, Abigail, Ladylee, Ashley, Limuel and Micah. Maria, better known to family and friends as "Chita", was born in the Philippines to Emeteria and Ceferino Berena on August 31, 1951. Ever the caregiver, Chita came to Canada in the 1970s to provide a better life for her younger siblings, and brought along with her, her infectious laugh and unforgettable sense of humour everywhere she went. Viewing/Lamay will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 and Friday May 2, 2014 commencing at 6:00 p.m. from Mosaic Funeral Chapel 1839 Inkster Blvd. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church 748 Keewatin St. Interment follows at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens 4477 Main St., Winnipeg, MB. The family would like to thank the Oncology staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, nurses from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Palliative Care Program, and staff at Riverview Health Centre for their assistance.
