Major Folkett had a keen sense of humour and was a true and great friend to all his soldiers, his heart was always in the right place for his troops. I will miss him he was a man of duty, honour and one hell of a great guy for an Officer. MWO Davis (ret) - Posted by: Kevin Davis (Fellow Service Member) on: Aug 06, 2014

We live on the west coast, and Bruce, on his vacation, used to appear from time to time on our doorstep for a visit, unannounced but always welcome. We will miss him. - Posted by: Doug Stewart (First cousin) on: May 03, 2014

Major (Retired) Bruce Folkett was the Commanding Officer of 17(Winnipeg) Service Battalion, a unit of 38 Canadian Brigade Group of the Canadian Army Reserve. He was a Signals Officer by trade that moved to the Service Battalion when needed and was Commanding Officer June 1993 to September 1996. He developed many young officers and soldiers, some that later deployed to Bosnia, Haiti, Afghanistan and other areas the Reserves have deployed to as well as helping with the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg in 1999 and the floods of 1997 and subsequent years. He will always be missed by those who knew him from the Battalion. United in Service. Barb McManus, LCol - Posted by: Barb McManus (Friend) on: May 01, 2014

Met in summer Army Reserve Training at Camp Shilo. Remet as students at United College a month later. Became lifelong friends. Shared many outdoor activities and travels. He became as an honourary son to my parents and brother to my two birth brothers. He will be missed by all who knew him. - Posted by: Robert (Bob) Sears (Friend/Honourary brother of my family) on: Apr 28, 2014

Over the years, Bruce and I had many, many wonderful chats. He was always there to listen to me and to offer me sound advice. It's difficult to imagine not being able to pick up the phone, just to say, "Hi Bruce, how are you doing?" and then to hear him reply, "Can't complain, no one will listen anyway!" I am going to miss you so much my dear friend. My deepest condolences go out to his family and to his friends. - Posted by: Sharon Laferriere (Friend) on: Apr 28, 2014
