We are very saddened by the loss of such a special Grandpa and a special friend. Stephen and Sean will forever treasure the wonderful memories of “Grandpa” vacationing in Hawaii, California and Coeur d'alene Idaho; we will ALL treasure the many summer vacations (and Christmas) spent at Victoria Beach together. Bob was a very caring, loving and generous man – we will miss him very much….. Love: Laurie, Stephen, Sean and Lynn XOXO - Posted by: Laurie Knutson ("Special Friend" and Grandsons) on: May 14, 2014

So sad to lose such a good friend & neighbor. Bob left us with lots of great memories, including his love for roses, his generosity & his great hospitality. He never complained about his failing health and did everything he was capable of doing as long as he could. Thank goodness for Sheila, as well as his amazing physical & mental strength. Bob had his very sharp mind to the end and in spite of his many health issues never lost his sense of humor, never got left behind on local, national or international news & never failed to express how much he enjoyed the Beach. He had a very strong will to live and had many a fight with a health care system that wanted to file him away. They never succeeded. Way to go Bob! You will be missed. - Posted by: Lynda & Al Bowman (Good Friends & Beach neighbors) on: May 08, 2014

Best Of Brothers.. that spells Bob.and I can say that.As our sister used to say..we were her favorite brother and sister, never mind that we were her only brother and sister. My earliest memories of Bob...he was my best friend, my champion, always taking my side. In those early years we climbed many a tree, swam a few rivers and lakes went.for 5 cents, at that time, to Saturday Matinees always Westerns which we re-enacted in our back yard, the Good guys against the Bad guys. I don't recall Bob ever being the bad guy. He was my favorite to play tricks on, and we all developed a rather warped sense of humor. If we played cards when he visited he would gleefully Hex his opponents hand after the deal, and of course then he'd win! hard not to believe in his power. Magic Tricks ? He loved amazing the kids and the kid in us witrh his slight of hand. Never a dull moment. He would travel miles in the middle of winter with his van all Christmas decorations inside just to take small relatives out for a few blocks of Magic, lights flashing and Carols playing inside. Bob loved to make people laugh, loved his toys, whether it was a magic wand or a snowmoble, as long as he could Share the joy and laughter with young and old. Even bundling up and taking his 80 plus year old Mother on her first snowmobile ride. So I am not surprised he drove a tractor in his pj's on his 60th anniversary at 80 plus! Bob celebrated LIFE. He found something to celebrate ,overcoming bad, and like all of us he had his share,he would find some good ,celebrate and move on.His last Christmas message! What an inspiration for all who recieved it ! To the end..squeeze every drop of laughter, find some good to celebrate and SHARE. Thanks Bob for being my brother love VeraWWw - Posted by: vera mclean (sister) on: May 04, 2014

My sons, Brendan and Connor, and I have lost a wonderful uncle who always made us feel so special and loved. We will forever cherish our memories of fun and happy times with Bob, especially those during our many summer visits to Victoria Beach from California where he'd have the American flag waving in his yard to welcome us to his "paradise." Victoria Beach will not be the same without him. - Posted by: Corinne Bruyere (Niece) on: May 03, 2014
