JANICE LYNNE (KATRICK) THIESSEN March 17, 1947 - April 29, 2014 Peacefully, with her family by her side, Janice passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at her home in Teulon. After almost seven years of battling cancer, she went home to meet her Saviour. Survived by: John, her husband of 45 years; her daughters, Tracy (Jim Walde) and Brenda (Kevin Ronald); her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Meghan, Trevor, Kameron, Katrich, Alison, Tyson, Braden and Baby?, as well as two others who were blessed to call her Mom, Dan Thiessen and Solla Howe. Also mourning her passing is her younger brother Gerry (Kathy and family) and sister-in-law Chris and family; her cousin Darlene Billinghurst, with whom she had a special life long bond. Janice was predeceased by her father, William in 2002, her mother Gladys in 2007, and her older brother Ronald in 2012. Janice was born in Winnipeg on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1947 to William and Gladys Katrick. She spent her growing up years at 511 Gateway Road. Janice attended Morse Place Junior High and Miles Macdonell Collegiate. The summer after Grade 11 she got a job at Furnasman, as an office clerk/receptionist and used her shorthand and typing skills. While working at Furnasman, she was set up on a blind date by a co-worker and met her future husband. Over the next few years she worked at Continental Freight, Hymann and Schmidt Masonry and Canada Wire and Cable. On August 31, 1968, Janice and John were married at All Saint's Anglican Church. After the birth of her daughter Tracy, Janice left the work force and became a full time mom. A year and a half later while renovating their house on Blackdale Road, their second daughter Brenda was born. In July of 1974 they moved to their acreage west of Gunton. Through the years Janice took much pleasure in her vegetable and flower gardens and was involved in many women's groups. She also loved crocheting and sharing her creations with others. Her relationship with the Lord was very important to her and she was actively involved in her church in various ministries. In the summer of 2000 Janice and John sold the acreage and moved into Teulon. In August of 2007 she was diagnosed with stage four cancer. After going through surgery and six months of chemotherapy, she had five wonderful years before the cancer returned in May 2013. Janice underwent radiation treatment in November and courageously fought her battle against the cancer until God called her home. Throughout her long struggle she always maintained her sweet spirit and uncomplaining attitude. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba for their excellent care - specifically Doctors Lotocki, Popowich and Dean. We would also like to thank all the wonderful health care aides and nurses from the Teulon office who took such good care of her these last few months. The excellent care and concern Janice received from Dr. Mike Loudon and the support from the local Palliative Care Unit will not be forgotten. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the New Life Church, Stonewall, MB. Interment will follow at the Windsor Cemetery, Teulon, MB. Arrangements Entrusted To: Anderson Family Funeral Home Ashern, Manitoba 1-866-293-4951

  • May God fill you all with peace at this sad time of releasing this lovely woman of God. Janice's enthusiasm for life and godliness was so evident in all that she did. She always had that very appropriate and timely word and we will miss seeing her at your side John and pray that you will find your strength and peace in God in the days ahead. • My heartfelt condolances go out to you and the family John. I'm really going to miss having Jan come out to the garden this summer to see what we two old guys were jabbering about over the fence instead of pulling weeds. I'm sure she is in a better place now. My thoughts are with you my friend. - Posted by: Don Bean (Friend and neighbor) on: May 04, 2014
