MICHAEL (MIKE) GARLINSKI
Born: Apr 03, 1936
Date of Passing: May 01, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL (MIKE) GARLINSKI On May 1, 2014, in faith and with heavy hearts, we returned our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to our loving God. Dad was born April 3, 1936 in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. Growing up on the farm instilled in him strong work ethics from an early age. Much of Dad's work life involved service to others in the food industry - and while employed by Brooke Bond, he met and married the love of his life, Mildred (Shelyst). Mildred shared his dream of owning and operating their own business, and so began "Garlinski's Grocery". After nearly 16 years, the store was sold, and Dad moved on to other endeavours, completing his work career at Seven Oaks Hospital. Dad was loved by his three children Michael (Susan), Danita (Rodney) and Michelle. He taught us by example to be respectful, caring of others and to live our faith. Mom's death in 1987 was devastating to Dad; and although he never loved another the way he loved Mom, Dad's heart was once again filled with joy upon the arrival of his grandsons, Trey and Evan. Dad was happiest spending time with "the boys" - watching a hockey game, attending school events, and supporting them in all activities. Dad was a man of integrity and deep faith, he valued family and his good sense of humour and simplicity of life are forever embedded in our hearts. Dad was a sports fan - and enjoyed golfing and bowling in his younger years. He also enjoyed many games of cards with friends and family, time at the Casino, and loved a good grocery sale! He supported various churches, clubs and not-for-profit organizations through the years by volunteering and calling bingo. Along with his children, mourning his loss are his siblings: Anne Garlinski, Helen Sereda, Fran Wasylishen, Wally Garlinski, Mary Morin, Liz Martyniuk (Mike), and Ron Garlinski (Sharon); his sisters-in-law: Sophie and Agatha Shelest, numerous nieces and nephews, and his life-long friend, Wes Myk. Dad was predeceased by his parents William and Bessie, his wife Mildred, and siblings Victoria and Stan Garlinski, as well as numerous in-laws. Our deepest thanks is extended to Fathers Sam Argenziano and Michael Koryluk for their presence and support. As well, we thank our cousin, Brian for his continuous awareness and understanding of Dad's needs. The Vigil prayers will be on Sunday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. from Holy Rosary Church (510 River Ave). Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, May 5 at 10:00 a.m. from Holy Rosary Church. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Holy Rosary Church. Michelle, Mike, Susan - Michelle - I thought I saw you and your father just a couple of weeks ago at St. Mary's Cathedral! I did not know your father but remembered meeting him once or twice and thought he looked first foremost like a : dad. We heard of his passing this past Sunday at 9:30 a.m. mass at SJB where my daughter Kiera was making her First Communion, and we all thought of you. Surely, part of your Father's legacy will be the lives of service his children still bear. You will be in my prayers, Joseph Langan - Posted by: Joseph Langan (friend of the family) on: May 06, 2014
