MARGARET KELNER May 30, 1929 - April 23, 2014 Margaret passed away peacefully at Poseidon Care Centre on April 23, 2014. She was born in Emerson, Manitoba on May 30, 1929 shortly after the family moved to Emerson from Caliento. Margaret is survived by sisters, Millie Bayliss, Rose Rogers, Kathy Outhouse, Doris Ross, nieces, Norma Sanders and June Scott, nephews, David Ross and Brian Gordon, brother-in-law Don Campbell, sister-in-law, Nancy Turner, and friends Isabel Leach and Shirley Morris. She was predeceased by her husband Dave in 1971, parents Dymtro and Anastasia (Godomski) Krul, sisters, Helen Bondi, Ann Pretty, Polly Gordon, Isabel Campbell, brother Bill Turner, brothers-in-law, Lawrence Bayliss, Carl Bondi, Bill Pretty, Frank Rogers, Del Outhouse, Glen Gordon, niece Diane Robertson, nephews Michael Sanders and Mark Campbell. Shortly after graduating from Emerson High School Margaret started working as a telephone operator for the Manitoba Telephone System in Emerson. She was then transferred to Morris and along with her sister Kathy and others, manned the Morris switchboard during the Red River flood of 1950. The operators stayed at the job until high waters forced their evacuation to Winnipeg. The operators all received a Certificate of Merit - For loyal and faithful service under trying conditions during the flood period in 1950. Margaret continued her employment with MTS in Winnipeg Beach and Winnipeg until her retirement in 1992. A devoted sister, aunt and friend, Margaret enjoyed her retirement by travelling, meeting friends for lunch, visiting relatives and making sure everyone had a good supply of perogies and cabbage rolls from Alicia's in Winnipeg. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 14 at the Emerson Cemetery, Emerson, Manitoba. Thank you to Poseidon Care Centre for caring for Margaret for the last five years.
