MARIA ROSA TROIA
Date of Passing: May 04, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA ROSA TROIA The dearest person in our life has gone back to God. On May 4, 2014, on a beautiful sunny morning and surrounded by her loved ones, our beautiful wife, mother, and Grammy Maria passed away. Just as always she wanted to protect us from pain so she fought hard for six years against her lung cancer. God truly blessed us with our beautiful angel we were fortunate enough to call mom. She wanted nothing more in life than to be surrounded by family and friends. All the love she gave was returned by the 140 visitors she had during her very short hospital stay. Everything she did for us, from her "special days" with each grandchild, her famous "Grammy cookies", and time spent with family and friends was done with such immense love and she had a way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in her life. Our mom is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Frank, her three daughters Angela (Kenton), Rosetta (Stu), Novella (Shael) and the true joys of her life her grandchildren Brittany, Sarina, Maria, Gabriella, Karina and Frankie. Also survived by sister Anna Bruno, brother Frank Troia (Elizabeth), sister-in-law Concetta Troia and nieces and nephews Sal Bruno, Andrew Bruno, Margie Bruno, Andrew Troia, Rosanna Stanton and Andrew Troia. Maria is also survived by her in-laws Ben Troia (Sybil), Maria Ciulla (Pino), Rosanna Messina (Santo), and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was predeceased by her mother Rosa, father Andrea Troia, brother Erasmo, brother-in-law Frank Bruno, mother-in-law Angela, father-in-law Paolo, brothers-in-law Salvatore and Antonino and special sister-in-law Francesca Verghetti. Thank you to the wonderful people who throughout the last six years have been a constant support to my mom and all of us. Especially Angela Infantino and family, Pina Infantino and family, and cousin Pina Troia and family. Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Jonathan Werier, Dr. Ken Skinner, Dr. Z and Dr. John W. Toole for all the years of wonderful care. Our mom's faith was huge, so for those wishing memorial donations can be made to Holy Rosary Parish. Our beautiful mom - Thank you for all you have given us. Right up until the end you made us, your family, your focus and we will carry you in our hearts forever. We will miss everything about you and our lives will never be the same but we are so glad your suffering is over. We love you so much. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with Rev. Father Sam Argenziano officiating. Condolences will be received at 9:00 a.m. Interment follows at the Holy Angel Mausoleum #1 Highway East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, MB. Pallbearers will be Sal Infantino, Sal Infantino, Andrew Troia, Andrew Bruno, Andrew Tuzzolino, Frank Verghetti, Joe Vergata and Vinny Troia. My thoughts and prayers are with my former colleague Michaela and her sister Marissa, The Ferlianos, the Conias, my former school psychologist Linda Schwartz (M. Dev. Psych), the family members of The Honourable Janice Morley-Lecomte, and Sons and Daughters of Italy Honourary member Sal Infantino. It was a pleasure to meet new people when I was helping out with maintenance at Italian Folklorama. Having a picture taken with The Honourable Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage, wearing my gold medal I was presented at the 2018 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, felt like a treasure. Each step I take in your memory takes me out of denial. I wish I could stay in denial and we will go for that lunch at Southdale Mall or we will talk next week about our children and grandchildren and how special they are to us. Our time together in Las Vegas was spectacular and we bonded more than ever before. I will never forget the sharing you, Frank and I did! I've known you enough years to know you were a genuine angel, friend, relative to all of us. Since you're with other family now memories are flooding me of our times together. Winnipeg Beach, 498 Langside, Hedges Bay, Fort Richmond and elsewhere. Your smile, your cheeky comments, your generosity, thoughtfulness, caring, hospitality and your ability to love and laugh your way into my heart will never be forgotten. When I lost a chunk of weight on Weight Watchers you went and bought me a belt saying that now I needed to show off my waist! Actions like that made you a mentor and classy lady. I was blessed to know you. I will miss your presence, our visits and phone calls at the same time I won't miss your struggle and pain as you fought a deadly disease that could have taken you from us many years ago. I thank God that He gave us extra time to enjoy you in our lives. See you later my friend. Love you! - Posted by: JO ANNE JEFFRYS (sister-in-law) on: May 14, 2014

My family were neighbors with Maria when we lived on Louisiana Place. When my brother and I were young, my grandpa would babysit us while my mom worked. Each day my grandpa would take us out for a walk in the neighborhood and each day Maria would wait until we were finishing our walk and would offer us some of her famous cookies- we never declined:). It made our day. My brother and I would always look for Maria and her smile at the end of our walks:). It is a memory of my childhood that I will never forget. Truly blessed to be able to share in a small part of her life, will always be remembered and deepest condolences for Frank and his family.-Kurt Preiss(Friend and neighbor) - Posted by: Kurt Preiss (Friend and neighbour) on: May 10, 2014

Maria lit up every room she walked into. Period. When we were kids we used to visit Maria's Mom in the city (NY). "Knock Three Times" was constantly on the radio and one time it came on and we were all singing it aloud, Angela and Rosetta, (Novella wasn't born yet), Frank and their grandma, my parents and brothers, laughed hysterically because Maria would act the "knock" three times times with her hand to the ceiling making us all laugh every time she did. We couldn't wait for the chorus each time. That was Maria, she brought fun to a room, light to house, and a bright smile to our faces. Heaven is a lucky place to have an angel like her. Our condolences to her husband and children and her entire family. We will miss her with the heaviest of hearts. Love Paulie and Tim. - Posted by: Paul Enea & Tim Forry (Cousins) on: May 08, 2014

To cousin Frank and family; our hearts are aching knowing that Maria is no longer here with us. We will always remember the visits we had together; sharing good memories of the past and laughing for hours, especially about the adventures of my Dad and Frank. Visiting Maria during Christmas was very special because she had the best ornaments on her Christmas tree, they weren't just ornaments, each ornament told a story and it was very special hearing her talk about them. She has touched so many hearts and she will never be forgotten. Her spirit lives in us in many ways and knowing that she is in a better place brings comfort to us, knowing she is no longer in any pain. May you find comfort in the memories you shared with Maria and may these memories give you strength to move on. Maria was a beautiful soul, our deepest sympathy is with your family throughout this time. - Posted by: Frances,Saverio Domenic and God son Vinny Bruni (Cousins) on: May 08, 2014
