MAUREEN (MARY) SEARLE (nee O'NEILL) Maureen (Mary) Searle (nee O'Neill) of Winnipeg passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the age of 78. Mary was born November 6, 1935, in Belfast, N. Ireland to Felix and Mary O'Neill. Mary had many hardships to overcome in her early life, the least, was getting through the war years, a broken family, and eventually immigrating to the U.S. to live with her sister. While there, she met and married Clark Searle and they brought three sons into the world. Mary was the backbone of the family as she raised her three sons and supported her husband's military and academic careers. She was a proud homemaker and was instrumental in her husband's and sons' accomplishments. After many moves and address changes, Mary and family finally settled in Winnipeg. Sadly after a few years of getting settled, she lost her husband to cancer, but kept the family intact. Mary's free time always involved going to the ANAF Rockwood and enjoying her numerous friends, dancing, playing shuffleboard and Casino. Mary is survived by her three loving sons, Clark, Robert and Paul; daughter-in-law, Valerie; sister Kathleen and husband Noel of Belfast; and grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha and Michaela. Nephew Raymond of Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law Ruby, Anne and Margaret O'Neill of Ireland, sister-in-law Sandra Bengston; and nephews and nieces Pidgy, Monica, Tami and Steven of Middle River, MN. She was predeceased by her husband, Clark; parents, Felix and Mary; brothers, Jim, Geordie, Felix and Robert; and sister Margaret. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Reception to follow at the ANAF Rockwood, 341 Wilton Street. Mary will be sorely missed. "Mom", we love and miss you terribly. We bless and cherish the time you could spend with us, and know, you are now at Peace. God Bless. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Kidney foundation of Manitoba, 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg MB, R3Y 1G4, (204) 989-0800. From the lips of the Irish come the colours of a sunset, the freshness of a mountain lake, the depth of an ocean and the love of a mother.
