SONIA KOLISNYK (nee CHARKEWICH) March 30, 1920 - January 6, 2014 Our Auntie Sonia was THE BEST Auntie in the world - a second Mom' to us all! She lived a long, yet practical life devoted to others and, in particular, to her family and her husband Blacky' until his demise in 1975. Auntie Sonia was also predeceased by her beloved parents, Michael and Victoria, and her siblings: John, Adelyne and Victor. Our Uncle Mike of Beausejour is now the only surviving sibling. The Circle of Life' became very real, as we took up the care-giving role of Auntie Sonia in early fall of 2012 until Auntie Sonia's passing this past January at Concordia Hospital with family by her side. What more important lesson in life can be learned than how to love? Thank you, Auntie Sonia, for sharing this most important lesson with all of us through your compassion and thoughtful, tireless acts of service and generosity! In many ways, Auntie Sonia had a rather destitute, but loving life on Bobbie and Gee-Gee's Farm' in Pine Ridge, which was our most favourite place while growing up. Auntie Sonia lived through the depression, and suffered losses that were great (family and friends) and losses that were small (all of her pets). These difficult times left her barely dragging' ... to coin one of her favourite phrases. What better legacy to leave than an indelible impression on the hearts of so many who received your love and who loved you all the more in return? You were one in a million, Auntie Sonia! Your generous spirit and kind heart will forever remain with us. Following is a poem written for you by your brother, Mike: When I'm gone, don't grieve for me For I was a frail, old soul who was just set free; Free from sorrow, free from pain ... To never, ever suffer again. Please join Auntie Sonia's family in celebrating her beautiful, long life and our favourite memories of this very special, little lady on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, Transcona, luncheon to follow service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 043.
