JUSTINA FALK (FRIESEN) -
Date of Passing: May 08, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUSTINA FALK (nee FRIESEN) 1923 - 2014 On Thursday, May 8, 2014, Justina Falk, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the Misericordia Health Centre, Winnipeg, at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her parents Cornelius P. Friesen and Justina (nee Dueck), her husband Henry W., sisters Anna, Nettie, Sara, and brothers Cornelius, Peter and Henry. Left to cherish her memory are her four children Don (Lynda), Audrey (Tom Holens), Stan (Cathy) and Debra (Paul Gerber); her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbara (John) Wiens, Mary (Jake) Neufeld, one brother Bernie (Edith) Friesen, seven sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews. Justina was born in a combined house and barn in the Roseville district near Altona, Manitoba. She attended Roseville School until the age of 14. After that she helped out on her parent's farm until she married her husband Henry who she always referred to as "the best one". They were married in 1941 when she was 18 and Henry was 25. They lived in various places in the Altona area until Justina was 23 and they moved permanently to Winnipeg because of Henry's work at the Manitoba Sugar Company. There they purchased a 625 square foot home on Boston Avenue in which they raised their four children. Justina was a homemaker of her time, gardening, canning, baking, cooking, cleaning and sewing. Until 1955, these tasks were done without the aid of running water. After 26 years on Boston Avenue, they purchased her dream home on Silverstone Avenue. She lived there for 19 years. Henry died in 1988 and in 1991 Justina moved into a condo (Marina Del Rey) on Cloutier Drive. Here she enjoyed the company of many good friends she made there until her health declined. In January 2011 she moved to Riverside Square, Harmony Court, then moved to personal care homes Heritage Lodge and Golden Links Lodge. Unfortunately, with the flooding of Golden Links Lodge, she had to make one more move to the Misericordia Health Centre. Justina was an outgoing person who loved to be with people. She was a devoted wife and with her Christian beliefs she looked forward to the day that she would once again meet up with Henry in Paradise. The last seven years of her life were very difficult; full of suffering from cancer, anemia of chronic disease, chronic pain and dementia. The family would like to thank all the people who have donated blood which eased her suffering. We would also like to give special thanks to Golden Links and Misericordia Health Centre nurses and staff. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Altona Mennonite Church, 267 8th Avenue N.E. (Corner of 8th Avenue NE and 6th Street NE in Altona, MB). Interment will follow at the Altona Cemetery. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home, Altona, on Sunday, May 10, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. If you so desire, make a donation to the charity of your choice. Wiebe Funeral Home, Altona in care of arrangements. 204-324-5404
