LEONARD PATRICK OLEKSUK March 17, 1941 May 11, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of beloved husband, father and grandfather Leonard Oleksuk. Len is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Gail, daughters Dinnette (Ken) Yaworski, Trena Taylor, Marilynn (Mark) Gozda and Hayley Oleksuk. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Kayla, Kiana, Rayne, Michael, Myles and Sophia. He also leaves to mourn his passing his brother Rod (Iris) Oleksuk, sister-in-law Patricia Oleksuk and many nieces and nephews. Len was predeceased by parents Steve and Josephine, brothers Douglas and Nelson and niece Tracy. Len was the original "MacGyver" and "Ukrainian Recycler". He could often be found in his garage. If someone needed help, everyone knew they could ask Len because he never said no. Dad was a true family man and enjoyed taking his family camping. It is there that he taught respect of nature, how to fish and to waterski. We have many happy memories of spending time around the campfire. He later passed all these skills to his grandchildren who he loved dearly. It gave Dad great pleasure to make each one of his grandchildren a fishing tackle box. After retirement, Dad was active in Lac du Bonnet as a volunteer and was an avid curler. The neighbours always joked to Mom that they could never keep up with Dad. Mom and Dad played cribbage each day and you always knew when Dad found a point because of the huge grin on his face. Dad fished as often as he could and there is a secret spot in Lac du Bonnet called "Len's Rock" that Dad has never disclosed. Funeral will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Tuesday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. We want to thank Lac du Bonnet EMS and RCMP Cst. Amber Patel who showed amazing compassion and support to Mom. We are also grateful to the neighbours on Drabyk Road who were there for Mom. In lieu of flowers donations in Len's memory may be made to Siloam Mission. Cropo Funeral Chapel 204-586-8044

Gail, know that Len will be with you forever in memory and spirit, that cannot be taken away from you. You will always remember the good times, which will by far surpass anything anyone can ever say to you to ease the pain. Keep up your strength and remember that I am here anytime for you. • Len, my heart hurts so much I didn't know a heart could feel so much pain.I miss you so very much and don't know if I can go on without you.I still think your in the yard doing something or gone to help someone. I miss our cribbage games at supper time, our laughs together and yes even our arguements over the remote. Each night I smell your housecoat and feel you are near but I want to touch you and I can't. You were too young to go honey and at times feel angry at God for taking you from me(us). I know you will be with us on Tuesday. The kids as much as they are hurting have a beautiful send off for you. I love you with all my heart sweetheart. Gail - Posted by: Gail Oleksuk (wife) on: May 18, 2014

  • Len and I spent many hours together in the fishing boat. Len competed as hard in the boat to see who could catch the most walleye as he did when he was playing crib against me. For some strange reason he seemed to always come out on top whether fishing or playing cribbage. Len, I will always remember the good times we had fishing or our hunting escapades. We will meet again some day my friend. I will be bringing a fresh deck of cards. David George - Posted by: David George (Fishing Buddy) on: May 17, 2014

  • To my dear Auntie Gail... I can only offer you my deepest condolences and absolute most heartfelt sympathies at the loss of your beloved husband (my dear Uncle Len). My heart is with you at this most difficult time and you are first and foremost in my daily prayers. I pray that you find little amounts of joy in everyday, simple things. I hope you smile often because the love that you and Uncle Len had for each other for all these years still, and will forever, grow in your heart. I pray that God will reassure you with his never-ending promise to always be with you and I pray that he will ease your heavy heart and carry it for you. Our tears now may be filled with pain and longing, but one day, they will be tears of joy as we look back and remember a beautiful life filled with beautiful memories that are most precious. Words alone may not be able to comfort, but hopefully the unconditional love from all of the family and friends around you who share in your grief can. To my cousins, Dinnette, Trena, Marilynn and Hayley... I also offer to you my deepest condolences at the loss of your dear, loving Father. May you find love and peace and comfort in all of the people around you who love and care for you so very deeply. May you all also smile as you look back lovingly at all of the memories you hold in your heart and may God bless you with joy and love. I send my love to all of you who are deeply saddened by this sudden loss of a loving soul. - Posted by: Andrea Murphy (Niece) on: May 17, 2014

  • Sadly i will miss Len,he was a very close Buddy, when it came to help or talking he was there; when it came to Fishing he was my Teacher/Coach..... In the Boat, all the time, all I heard from him was "FISH ON..GET THE NET". Compassion and Love for the Family Jo Jo.. Len was truly a great friend and was always such a hard working man. He had a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed by us. Our condolences go out to you and your family Gail. May the blessing of family and close frends help you through the coming months.
