ARTHUR FREDRICK SQUIRES (PA) May 2, 1937 May 16, 2014 We are very saddened to announce the sudden passing of our much loved husband, father and grandfather. God answered Pa's wishes as Pa passed away peacefully with his loving wife Dorice, of 56 years, by his side in Mulvihill where he was born and raised. Pa fought many challenging health issues throughout his life from Polio to the last being Parkinson's disease and heart failure. Pa was born May 2, 1937 in the Eriksdale Hospital. He enjoyed the country life until coming to Winnipeg to work in 1953. As the saying goes, "you can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy". Pa followed his heart and spent many Christmas and Easter holidays and weekends back in the country, at the farm, with Dorice and his children and grandchildren. We spent much of this time enjoying the value of nature and creating many everlasting memories for us all to cherish. In earlier years Pa loved hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He also loved baseball, curling, snowmobiling and a good game of Canasta or Poker. Art worked at various places before commencing work at Hart Emerson - Carter Day from 1961 to 1984. In 1984 Pa took a big leap of faith and established Can-Seed Equipment Ltd. which is still operated by his son Wayde and daughter-in-law Joan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Pa was well known and well respected in Canada by many who are and were involved in seed growing, processing and trading. Art was a member of the Masons, GEAPS, CSGA and the MSGA. He was proudly honoured for his involvement in his career by Seed Growers and the SSGA at an annual convention in Saskatoon many years ago. Likewise, Pa donated funds to help the University of Saskatchewan build the new Agriculture Building in Saskatoon and was proud to have his name carved into the stone wall near the building's entrance. Pa is survived by his beloved wife Dorice; his beloved companion Mr. Bud; his children Wayde (Joan) of Saskatoon, Debbie (Keith) Lundale of Eriksdale and Waverley (Diana) of Lester Beach; grandchildren, who he was so proud of, Krystin (Chris), Kyle (Rikki), Nicole, David, Courtney (Dustin); his brothers Clifford (Joanne) of Nanaimo, Willard (Toni) of Winnipeg; sister Violet Besson of Winnipeg; his sisters-in-law Marlene Pollard, Margaret Davis and Marie (Don) Schroeder; his "Cousie" Wayne (Lorraine) Sanford along with many cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and many great friends. He was predeceased by his parents Willard Squires and Rose Pearson, grandparents Charles and Rosa Sanford, brothers Allan Squires and Leonard Pearson, sister Eileen Tkach, brothers-in-law Victor Besson and John Tkach. He will be greatly missed by many. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 9Z9 or to a charity of your own choice. Cremation has taken place. An honouring of "Pa's" life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Eriksdale Recreational Centre with Mel Kauppila officiating. Service will conclude at the hall with a lunch to follow. Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOME Ashern - Lundar 1-204-768-2072 1-866-323-3593

I realize this is a bit late but I just found out about Art's passing. Dorice was my babysitter when I was young. My mother and I remember Art as a happy go-lucky type of person. I remember a memory all of his children hugging him when he woke after a long trip on the road when he was a driver. Art was one of the very best people we had the honor of knowing. He gave many an example to live by, honesty, kindness and love. We enjoyed many visits and card games. Even when losing, Art would laugh and joke even though he was in pain. He truly enjoyed sharing time with friends not winning the game. His game is done, he played it well. God Bless those he left behind to remember a wonderful man. With love, Eileen & Richard - Posted by: Eileen Davidson (Long time friends) on: May 20, 2014

My heartfelt sympathy to Dorice and family. Art was an all round good guy with his pleasing personality. His concern for my Bill (2008) was genuine. Bill always welcomed Art's phone calls.
