Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED SAWATZKY Alfred Sawatzky of Dominion City passed away Tuesday May 20, 2014 at the Emerson Personal Care Home with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents Jacob and Tina, his stepmother Agatha, his sisters Mary, and Tina, and his brothers Frank and Abe. Surviving siblings are Henry (Ester) of Morris, MB, sister Susan (Ernie) who lives in Chilliwack, and brother Peter (Caroline) of Langley BC. To mourn his loss, Alfred leaves behind three sons and two daughters. They are Wayne (Jean) of Winnipeg, Arthur (Julia) of Peace River, AB, Irene (Troy) of Dominion City, Sharon (Don) of St Jean and Ivan (Linda) of Winkler. As well as his 12 grandchildren: Curtis (Morgann), Brian (Jennifer), Erin (Scott), Eric, Bradley, Bryce, Danica, Corinne, Jenae, Riley (Ainsley), Larissa and Stardessa. Alfred was born on the family farm in southern Saskatchewan September 13, 1928. As a child his family moved to Grunthal and later Morden. For awhile Alfred and his brother Abe farmed in the Grunthal area. To make ends meet they would also cut wood in the bush camps. Dad had a job as a ranch hand on the Robertson Ranch and fell in love with the rancher's daughter Mary. They were married in 1960 in Dominion City where they settled down to raise their family. Alfred worked for the Department of Highways from 1957 to 1988. He was a volunteer fire fighter for 50 years. Alfred was the president of the Dominion City Community Club and also chairman of the bingo. He called the bingo for many years. Alfred was the president of the Craft Club in Dominion City for many years. Alfred was very involved with the Dominion City United Church. Some of Alfred's passions were spending time with his grandchildren, camping, fishing, travelling, gardening and cutting fire wood, bingo and loved his pets. Alfred travelled many road trips with his family into the States and West Coast. He also traveled to the Maritimes, Cuba and Costa Rica. The Sawatzky family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Emerson Care Home for taking such great care of our father and grandfather. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dominion City United Church and viewing will take place prior to the funeral. The internment will follow the service at the Dominion City Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Dominion City United Church for the purchase of a new piano.
