WILMA HORN (nee STOCKS) On Thursday, May 22, 2014 at St. Boniface Hospital, Wilma passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred in 1994 after 42 years of marriage. Wilma was born on November 16, 1926 in Roland, MB. She is survived by her son, Ken (Joyce), daughter, Sheila (Victor) and two cherished grandchildren, Tara and Kyle. As a young adult, Wilma began a teaching career in rural Manitoba. Austin, Emerson and Oak Bluff were some of the communities in which she taught. It was in the latter location that she met the love of her life. She also spent a number of years teaching in Winnipeg and retired from a position at Elmwood High School in 1985. Wilma was fortunate to live an independent life up until her last few days. She loved her home and managed it with very little assistance. The flowers in her yard were attentively cared for each and every summer and she had already begun this year's spring clean-up of her perennial beds. Silver hair perfectly coiffed, hands neatly manicured and always impeccably dressed. Wilma took great pride in her appearance and enjoyed purchasing or receiving new clothing. Often in the company of dear friend Zvonka, she could be spotted at local eateries "decked out" in her finest. Wilma was always a loving and supportive mother and grandmother. Gammy, as she was known to Tara, Kyle and others, had a wonderful sense of humor and a degree of sass that endeared her to many. Although she is no longer at our side, she will forever live on in our hearts. In keeping with Wilma's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Rm. ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • So sorry for your loss Ken, Sheila and families. Due to previous commitments I am unable to attend the service today. Your Mom was such a wonderful lady I know she will be greatly missed. She was always so kind to my Mom (Lillian Gilbert) with her visits, phone calls, cards and letters. She will really miss her too. We will be thinking of you all today. - Posted by: Linda Chartrand (friend) on: May 29, 2014

  • Dear Ken and Sheila. I was so saddened to hear of your Mother's passing. I have such wonderful memories of her! For years when we visited Winnipeg we would have to go see "The Horns". They always made Brian and I and our kids feel so special. I saw your Mom about two and a half years ago and she was as spiffy as ever! She has joined your Dad, the love of her life, and he will once again be making her laugh as he did for so many years! - Posted by: Pat Forbes-Chychrub (Frend) on: May 26, 2014

  • Ken, my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your Mom. May the burden of your sorrow be lightened by the gift of friends and family at this difficult time. Your loss resonates with us all. Gord - Posted by: Gordon Krzoska () on: May 26, 2014

  • Hi Sheila, Victor, Kyle and Tara. So sorry to hear about "gammy". I know you were very close. I always remember your mom at Kyle's special school functions, how proud she always was of his achievements. Remember the special times and keep your fond memories close to your hearts. • I was fortunate to have Mrs. Horn as my math teacher in Elmwood High School for grade 7 and 8. That would be back in 1977/78. I was a straight A student only because of her diligent teaching and genuine care of each of her students. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: LoriLoLoirlLoriLori Fabasf-Martin (fomer student) on: May 25, 2014
