LILLIAN VAN WALLEGHEM (nee DE WANDEL) Lillian Van Walleghem was peacefully called home to God on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the age of 81 years, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind Albert, her husband of 54 years, four children, Cheryl Tomlinson (Wayne), Lisa Grant (Charles), Ron Van Walleghem (Vivian) and Susan MacLeod (Robert), nine grandchildren, Janelle Mann (Jason), Tyler Grant (Hollie), James Tomlinson, Cara Grant, Kurtis Van Walleghem, Mark Tomlinson, Matthew Van Walleghem, Arielle MacLeod and Heather MacLeod, and great-grandson, David Mann. She also leaves behind her brothers, Herman (June) De Wandel, Omer De Wandel and George (Elayne) De Wandel and sister, Lorraine (Ken) Poersch, sisters and brothers-in-law, George and Fran Van Walleghem, Maurice and Cecile Van Walleghem and Laurie and Marlene Cleutinx, as well as many nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by two grandchildren, Stephen Van Walleghem and Sarah MacLeod, as well as her parents, Alphonse and Marguerite De Wandel, parents-in-law, Wilbur and Angela Van Walleghem, and her sister and brother-in-law Joan and Francois Michel. Lil was born in St. Boniface on July 23, 1932, and was raised in Norwood. On May 23, 1959 she married Albert and they lived in Fort Garry where they owned and operated a dairy farm and raised their four children. In 1979 they moved into her dream house on the river in Glenlea and in 2009 they moved back to Winnipeg into a condo in St. Norbert. Lil's home was always a great place for her family and friends to come for a visit, a meal and a card game. Cooking a good Belgian meal was important to her and she played to win at cards. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams. She remembered birthdays with a personal hand painted card and kept up on everyone's life activities and accomplishments. Lil's other passion was oil and watercolour painting and her beautiful pictures hang on the walls of many homes. She was active in getting Artarama started as a fundraiser for her church. Lil and Albert enjoyed traveling, with Maui as their favourite destination. Lil made her last trip to Belgium just last summer. The family would like to thank all the staff at Health Sciences Centre and Riverview Health Centre who cared for Lillian over the last few months. A funeral mass celebrating Lil's life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Mary, Mother of The Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. A private interment will take place at a later date.
