DAVE WRIGHT
Born: May 19, 1960
Date of Passing: May 23, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVE WRIGHT May 19, 1960 - May 23, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dave Wright, age 54, of St. Andrews, MB. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jeanette, son Joey (Sarah), daughters Kristen (Garth), Carly (Chris), grandchildren Bryce and Ainsley, mothers-in-law Violet Herda and Anna Forte, father-in-law Nick Forte, sisters-in-law Gina (Hugh), Christine (Dana), Carina (Santo), brother-in-law Arnie as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Dave will be sorely missed by his loving pets Dieter and Annie. Dave was predeceased by his mother Sonia Weselake and stepdad Jim Mah. Dave started his own landscaping company in 1999 which he continued to do until his passing as well as performing as the front man in the band Free Ride for 30 years until his retirement in 2010. Nothing brightened Dave's life more than spending quality time with his family, whether it be hosting annual Canada Day celebrations, putting in countless hours building the rink for the back yard hockey games and most of all, seeing the smiles on his grandkids faces when they came for visits to grandma and grandpa's. In his younger years Dave developed a strong passion for hockey, football, baseball and soccer; which later led to his dedication not only as an excellent player but an adored coach and a true fan. In his later years he enjoyed spending his time admiring his "Caddys", making endless trips to the antique store for his collectible bottles and license plates, and constantly re-arranging his rock and roll garage. You would seldom see him without his big red slurpee cup in his hand, Bruin toque on his head, and "Diet the Heat" by his side. We will forever miss your guidance, detailed stories, unforgettable expressions and your stubbornness. You will be in our hearts always and forever. Rest in Peace. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in honour of Dave's life, with flowers graciously declined. 204-586-8044

Dave was a great guy even as a rookie on the team he hung out with me and invited me to always tag along. I remember first time he sung with Free Ride. It was a great match for him. He'll be missed. - Posted by: Miles Stanley (Friend and one of the first in the Free Ride army) on: Aug 10, 2014

As a goalie, he always had a tip or two for me while we were doing shots at the hockey rink. Very charismatic guy. Glad we shared the same lifetime. - Posted by: Bill Kuz (Hockey/Music Friend) on: Jul 27, 2014

Our most deepest sympathies to Jeanette and family. Dave was a very special person, we met at Gordon Bell High School. Over the years growing up, we used to go "cruising" up and down Portage Ave, in his Mustang, along with other friends. He was always smiling, had a great zest for life. Playing hockey at Orioles Community Club was always fun. After losing contact for awhile, we reconnected at one of his performances......what an entertainer he was!! We talked like we had never lost contact. He found out I was a hairstylist, and that was the start of a new relationship. I ended up cutting his hair for many years after. Every time he came for a haircut he was always holding his "traditional" Slurpee.....often brought an extra for me, cause that's just the kind of person he was. Cars and sports were his passion. Mustangs, Caddies, RoughRiders, Bruins, etc. etc. So very sad to learn of his passing. The world has lost another good one. Til we meet again my friend, - Posted by: Paul & Terri Verghetti (High School Buds,Neighborhood Friends) on: Jun 06, 2014

I met Dave back in 1975 at Gordon Bell High School. We use to sit around at his place listening to music and drinking Slurpee's. One thing I couldn't figure out was how he never got brain freeze from taking big sips (lol). When the Red River Exhibition would come to town Dave would always clean up at the game where you would throw the football trough the tire. It never failed, after winning a few stuffed animals, the staff wouldn't let him throw anymore because they couldn't make money off him (lol). We cruised up and down Portage Ave. in his Mustang and his Caddy and we thought gas was expensive back then (lol). Dave, we had good times my friend. Rest in peace and hope we meet again in the next life. My deepest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Louis Hristovski (friend) on: May 31, 2014

Many fond memories of Dave growing up next door to him through my teen years. Amazingly talented but yet you were so humble Dave that you rarely talked about your talents even when asked. You were never too busy to take the time to talk and share stories and that smile was always there. I wish I could have gotten the caddy painted just to see your face light up. You and Harv used to work on many a car back in the day and now you two can catch up on things. My condolences to Jeanette, Joe, Kristin and Carly. Sincerely, Tim - Posted by: tim sullivan (friend) on: May 30, 2014

Coach Dave, Part of the coaching team for the Morse Place Girls soccer team. I can still remember the first championship game. Many memories, many city championships for the girls. I don't think I can look at the red slurped cup with out thinking of coach Dave, always with him everywhere. Best memory, The Saturday practices always ending with a family soccer match girls against parents. Parents giving their all and the girls just plain enjoying themselves. Fantastic memories. You will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Brenda Janakas ((Soccer team manager Morse Place)) on: May 29, 2014

I was honored to know Dave and that he considered me a friend, looked up to him as a mentor and a role model. A bunch of us would play football against a group that we enjoyed winning against, of course Dave was the quarterback. We would travel in his Mustang (great car with the green metal flakes) if he could not fit everyone in his car one would ride in the trunk. Our deepest sympathies and condolences from our family to yours. - Posted by: john macfarlane (high school friend) on: May 29, 2014

I first met and saw Dave perform at the age of 12. My sister was friends with the boys of Free Ride. He was so into his performance. He was such a nice guy, talented and from what I was told an amazing family guy. Rest in peace. Thoughts to his family in this hard time. - Posted by: Amber () on: May 29, 2014

He was one of my coaches and he was so passionate and determined. I wasn't very good my first year of football but he gave me a chance and wouldn't go easy on me and it made me better than I hoped. I remember him always having that big ol slurpie cup all the time and it inspired me to buy one and begin refilling it on a regular basis. He was a great man I highly respected and he had an awesome laugh. My sincerest condolences to all the family and friends that were closer to him. He will be forever deeply missed. - Posted by: Rayven Phillips (He coached me and he's my best friend's uncle) on: May 29, 2014

Looking back now seems Dave and the rest of Us Guys spent most every available day and night of our 18-24 "emerging adulthood years" together. What a great ride all those years were Dave! Then, life intervenes and we scatter to our new-found responsibilities. Now, as adults, we reflect individually on our lives, our families, our accomplishments, and we know that little parts from each of Us Guys make up who we became as individuals. And so, through each of us Dave will continue. We will miss you brother. - Posted by: Cal Taylor (One of Us Guys) on: May 29, 2014

For 30 years of my life Dave and I were truly family. We started out as young boys in free ride touring and living on the road from Las Vegas to Japan and every part of canada and the USA. We watched each other's kids grow up and become a part of our lives. There are 1000s of great memories that only someone in a band of our level could ever experience. Dave was one of the top notch frontmen to ever come out of this city. His skills as Mick Jagger and Elvis Presley were always 110 % every night and to impersonate these figures is one of the hardest jobs in the world. He was truly a family man and the biggest Boston Bruin and Saskatchewan Roughrider fan on the planet. RIP Dave from your buddy Wayne'0 - Posted by: Wayne Hlady (Band members together in Free Ride for 30 years) on: May 29, 2014

Didn't know him personally....only watched as his musicianship continued as front man in "Free Ride"...or really really admired Dave (being a musician/entertainer myself)......he really was unforgettable ....I had hired the band for my wedding at the "Texas Connection" also...in 96...(if I'm not mistaken)...Dave's performance gave me goosebumps.....my condolences to all.... - Posted by: () on: May 29, 2014
