Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEIF SKJOLD GOTTFREDSEN Leif Skjold Gottfredsen, age 84, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2014 with his family by his side. Leif came to Canada from Denmark to follow his own path in 1955. He worked for a construction company where he quickly moved up to Foreman. He started his own construction business in the early 1960s called Scandia Construction. Leif met and married Myrtle Warywoda in 1958. They had bought their family home in Grant Park, where they have resided for the last 55 years and raised their three sons. Leif tried his hand at the hotel business and ran the hotel in Minitonas for a time, and then bought and operated the Sutherland Hotel on Main Street and the Tourist Hotel in St. Boniface. He then moved on and bought the Northern Hotel and the Ranch House on Main Street. Then he bought his last hotel, The Lord Selkirk Hotel located in Selkirk, Manitoba, where he and his sons ran the business together. There he made lifelong friends and created some cherished memories. After his retirement in 2004, Leif liked to go to the casino with friends every Thursday. Up until his last few days Leif would go every day and meet his friends for coffee once in the morning and again in the afternoon. Leif was predeceased by his parents Kristian Sorensen and Kristine Abalone Agnete Gottfredsen; his brothers Gottfried Gottfredsen and Jim Gottfredsen; his sister Johanna Petra Sorensen and her husband Troels Sorenson; his little sister Lisa Faion; his sister-in-law Elsie and brother-in-law Morris, and his nephews Patrick and Raymond. He leaves behind to grieve, his wife Myrtle, his sons and their wives: Godfrey and Penny, Jeff and Lana, and Curtis and Cher; his grandchildren, Alexis, Yvonne, Samantha, Ashley, Kristian and Sebastian, and his great-granddaughter Brooke. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Ethel and Sophie; brother-in-law Norman; many nieces and nephews, and of course many friends and neighbours. Leif will be greatly missed. The Memorial Service will take place on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Leif was a wonderful man who was always joking and having fun but still a gentleman. And he always made you feel like family. There was only one time that I ever saw Leif without a tie and even then he was well dressed. I will miss his hugs and we will both miss his camaraderie. He will be missed at the family gatherings and hockey and football games that he attended for Kristian and Sebastian.
