Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryASGEIR INGVI FINNSSON February 10, 1919 - May 28, 2014 On May 28, 2014 at the Arborg & District Health Centre beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Asgeir Ingvi Finnsson passed away peacefully at 95 years of age, with family by his side. Left to cherish his memory are children; Lorraine (Roger), Bernice (Murray), Leonard (Christine), Linda (Kris), Colin (Karen), Sherri (Terry), Glenda, daughter-in-law Gudrun, grandchildren; Kimberly, Kelvin, Kelly, Patricia, Joanne, Lyle, Lance, Lori, Carey, Cyndi, Cory, Jonathan, Alysha, Bradley, Michelle, Leanne, Patrick, Gavin, Chad, Michael, Justin, Lindsay, Jason, Ashley, Amber, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. Also left to mourn his passing are brothers-in-law Gordon (Audrey) and Lloyd (Jeanette) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth on June 15, 2012, after 71 years of marriage as well as his oldest son Ronald, grandson Raymond and great-granddaughter Jennalee. He was the last remaining member of his family having been predeceased by his parents Siggi and Hildur Finnsson and all his siblings and their spouses; sisters Thora (Joe), Sigga (Henry), Salin and brothers Fridrik (Helga), Sigfus (Margaret), Halldor (Emma), Brandur (Loa), Kristjon and Sveinn. He was also predeceased by in-laws Otto and Veiga Roche, sisters-in-law Josie (Jim), Margaret (Siggi), Tillie (Dori), Shirley (Jonas), Lil, brothers-in-law Arthur (Phyllis), Victor (Margaret), Wilfred (Edna), William and Harold. Dad was born on February 10, 1919 at home on the family farm in Vidir, Manitoba. It was evident at an early age that farming would be his vocation. He loved working with the animals but especially with his horses. A passion he had his entire life. On November 22, 1940 he married Ruth, the love of his life. They took over the family farm and it was here where they first settled to start their own family. They later purchased and moved to the farm that was owned by his brother, Sigfus. He was actively involved in community affairs and was always ready to give a helping hand. He aided in the building of the Vidir Community Hall, a place where he could be seen dancing the polka, two-step or waltz with Ruth. Music was an integral part of his life and he enjoyed his time in the choir. After retiring from farming, you would find dad puttering in the garden. If you didn't find him there, he would be scouting for a new place to plant a tree or a new spot to plant potatoes. He also took up wood working. He had many projects on the go at the same time and loved to take anybody to his workshop to show them all the different things he had made. A hand-made two-story dollhouse was his most cherished project. His attention to detail from the hand carved shingles, to the carpeting on the floors was a labour of love. Family and friends were the proud recipients of his work. He was a very humble man and never understood why anyone would want any of his pieces. Dad loved to read. Dad also enjoyed putting together puzzles and had a keen eye for the different shapes and colours. Dad enjoyed life and although it was busy, there was always time for a good cup of coffee with a moule (sugar cube) and a plate of sweets. His happiest moments were when he was surrounded by family and friends. He liked nothing better than when everyone was all together. It always put a twinkle in his eye and a bounce in his step. We love you dad, you will be dearly missed! Goda nott elskan minn A memorial service will be held on June 7, 2014 at the Vidir Cemetary at 2:00 p.m. Lunch to follow at the Vidir Hall. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at the Assisted Living and the Arborg District and Health Care Centre for all their care and kindness to Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Chapel (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

Sincere condolences to the family. Uncle Asgeir was a gracious man. Today I am remembering Asgeir and Ruth visiting us in Vancouver sometime in the nineties. We toured Vandusen Gardens and Asgeir really hit his stride when we entered the gift shop. He examined every unique bird house and piece of garden decor. Later in the day we continued on to Steveston fishing village for fish and chips. Asgeir was a very engaged tourist ....wanting to know the history of Steveston and enjoying seeing the fishing boats. The visit is a wonderful memory of Asgeir and Ruth...always to be treasured. Blessings to all. Gayle Fortt - Posted by: Gayle Fortt (niece) on: Jun 05, 2014

Uncle Asgeir has to have been the most gentlemanly fellow I ever have had the pleasure of knowing. I will forever treasure all my recollections and special memories of sharing time with him. He and my dear Pabbi (Brandur) shared seeding and haying chores of farming, so, was consequently often in our yard.....and running out to "visit" always met us with a smile and a cute comment to make us girls feel special. As we matured, he always wanted to know what we were doing with our gifts of life, and it was a pleasure to share.....coffee and baking, or a sandwich at Ruth and Asgeir's a treat to remember...May you rest in everlasting Peace Godi min, Geiri.....to you family who are far more than cousins to me...my deepest, most sincere condolences, and sympathy - Posted by: Faye SigurdsonFaye Sigurdson (Neice ) on: Jun 03, 2014
