ERNEST THOMAS WALSH April 30, 1938 - May 30, 2014 With his loving wife, Joan by his side, Ernest Thomas Walsh passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the age of 76 years. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Elgin, Sheldon, Matthew, Clinton, sister Lily Ann, and stepson Keith Johnston. Ernie is lovingly remembered by Joan, his wife of 36 years, daughter Carla Stevenson (Rick Dostaler), son Tom Stevenson (Debra), stepsons Dale Johnston (Kathy), Brian Johnston (Kim), stepdaughter-in-law Brenda Law Johnston, stepdaughter Kerry Clermont, 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and sister Georgina Oshmak. The youngest son of Thomas A. Walsh and Minnie M. Bellwood, Ernie was born in Swift Current, SK on April 30, 1938. His working life began delivering telegrams while attending school in Swift Current, SK. Over the years, he worked in Saskatchewan and Alberta before moving to Winnipeg, MB. Ernie and Joan enjoyed golfing, attending Goldeyes games, and taking holidays to visit family in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, making sure to fit in time to cross-country ski in Kananaskis. In retirement, a year-round excuse to go for a walk with Joan was met by delivering flyers on routes around Transcona. In summers, he was always busy tinkering in his garage; spending untold hours repairing bicycles for neighbours, friends and anyone else that asked. His kind smile and the twinkle in his eye will be missed by all his neighbourhood friends. Some of Ernie and Joan's favourite charities are the Salvation Army, MADD and Siloam Mission. Thank you to all the Cardiac Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care of Ernie. A gathering in celebration of Ernie's life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day Street.
