Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryETHEL ROGAN (nee EARNSHAW) June 27, 1920 - June 3, 2014 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother in her 94th year on June 3, 2014. Left to lovingly remember her are husband Jim, daughters Joanne Keselman (Harvey) and Jane Reid (Doug), grandchildren Chris Reid (Heather), Katie Mawhinney (Gerry) and Isaac Keselman (Maria), as well as nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, William and Annie Earnshaw, and sisters, Joan and Adora. Ethel was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She was a graduate of the Leeds College of Commerce and joined the R.A.F.'s Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) during the Second World War. Ethel was stationed at the Topcliffe Airbase, where she met her future husband, Jim. Ethel's name was published in the London Gazette on June 8, 1944 as Mentioned in a Despatch for distinguished service. In 1947 and in response to a proposal, Ethel ventured to Canada to marry Jim. They settled in Calgary, where they lived for 18 years and their two daughters were born. In 1965, the family moved to Winnipeg when Jim was transferred by his employer, CIBC. After 11 years in Winnipeg, Ethel and Jim moved on transfer to Regina, where they spent the next seven years. On Jim's retirement in 1982, they returned to Winnipeg to rejoin their daughters. At the time of her death, Ethel and Jim were living in Dakota House where they had made many new friends. Ethel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family and others first. She was a wonderful homemaker with a particular flair for baking, sewing and needlework. She loved music, was an accomplished pianist and an avid gardener. Ethel was an active volunteer in her community dedicating countless hours to Meals on Wheels and canvassing for various charities. She was a quiet, kind and gentle woman who made lasting friends wherever she lived. Cremation has taken place. The family will be having a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations can be made in Ethel's memory to The Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 3R6.
