LORNE KNOWLES On June 4, 2014 at the age of 74, Lorne passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side while listening to his favorite music. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Janis Kippen, sons Larry (Elizabeth Vaughan) - Hannah, Sadie, Regan; Chris (Shana) - Hunter; Harper; stepsons James Kippen (Beverley) - Jackson; Matt Kippen (Mairi Babb); sister Joyce (Bob) McMillan - Sydney; his first wife Joanne; and special niece and goddaughter Lisa Publow. He also leaves behind many close friends whom he loved dearly. Lorne was predeceased by his father George, mother Ethel, sister Trudy and brother-in-law Bob Alexander. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Lorne's brilliant mind, analytical prowess and exceptional memory served him well in all his life's endeavours. To many he was a mentor, advisor and counselor. Lorne enjoyed a successful career as a Chartered Accountant for over 50 years. He was chief statistician for the Air Canada Silver Broom and Hexagon Men's World Curling Championships from 1978 to 1988, and also served as Executive Director of the World Curling Tour Championships. Lorne had the opportunity to tour the world teaching curling for over 20 years with TU Curling Schools. While Lorne had many interests beyond curling, which included his youthful signing with the Montreal Canadiens, his true sporting passion was golf. As a member of Rossmere, St. Boniface, Niakwa and Wildewood golf clubs, he forged many lasting friendships. In more recent years Lorne and Jan enjoyed wintering in Arizona, which beyond the golfing opportunities also provided them with new and lasting friendships. Lorne valiantly fought cancer three times. He did so with dignity and courage. His fighting spirit has been an inspiration to many. As a friend wrote to him "It is because of people like you that we are inspired to continue this fight and after we are gone inspire those who will fight in the future." We would like to thank the many doctors and support staff at the CancerCare Clinic, the Palliative Care Team, and especially his family physician Dr. Brian Sharkey. We would also like to thank the many family and friends who lent their support when we needed it most. In keeping with his wishes, a celebration of his life will take place at a later date this year and will support the Never Alone Foundation. www.neveralonefoundation.ca. "Our loving thoughts are with you Knowlzy as you tee it up on your final golf course. Enjoy playing with endless blue skies and green fairways, winds forever at your back and a tee box that is always open just for you." The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO.
