JOAN VIVIAN FRIESEN (nee WIEBE) October 20, 1955 - June 6, 2014 Joan Vivian Wiebe was born to Katherine and Peter Wiebe of Linden, Manitoba (near Landmark) on October 20, 1955. After moving around between Rosenort and Steinbach, Joan married her high school honey, Marv Eidse in 1973. In 1979, Peter K. Wiebe, Joan's father died at the young age of 46 after about a year of struggling with cancer. The death of her dad was hard on her but more hardship was to come. She lived happily with her husband Marv for almost eight years until his sudden death in 1981 at the early age of 27. Joan was devastated after Marv's death, but found comfort in the company of Greg Friesen, who she married just shy of 32 years ago on June 12, 1982. Two children later, Dylan in 1987 and Jordan in 1991, Joan and Greg settled down and lived an active life in the community of Rosenort. Joan served on numerous boards and committees, worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses and as an EA at the Rosenort School. She loved to travel and spent many miles hanging on to Greg on the backseat of their motorcycle traveling the USA and Canada. Joan loved to entertain and had many friends over for massive meals and to sit around the firepit on the deck she loved so much. Joan's last years were spend doing the things she loved; gardening, motorcycling, photography, cooking, lovingly providing all the comforts of home for Greg and her children, and most favourite of all, grandmothering Dylan and his wife Cheryl's boy and girl, her pride and joy, Cruz and Nixi, and showering them with gifts, hugs, kisses and love. She has left behind Greg, her best friend and husband of nearly 32 years, the man she supported in every way and encouraged to explore his interests. She also has left her son Jordan, her son Dylan and wife Cheryl, their two children Cruz and Nixi, her mother Katherine (Tina), stepfather Henry Siemens and his children, brother Gord and sister-in-law Debbie, brother Myron and sister-in-law Val, brother Cameron, nieces, nephews, and her entire Friesen family in-laws. Besides family, Joan leaves behind many friends of all ages and lifestyles ranging from young students at the school, to seniors from Sebring, Florida where they stayed with mom and dad Friesen last winter, to all the doctors and nurses who cared for her during the last months. Wife, mom, daughter, sister, auntie, grandma, and friend, Joan Vivian Friesen peacefully went to heaven, leaving all her pain behind, early Friday morning, June 6, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. A private family burial has taken place at the Rosenort Evangelical Mennonite Church Cemetery on June 7, 2014. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosenort Evangelical Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Inner City Youth Alive. Arrangements Entrusted to: Morris Funeral Home 204-746-2451

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Joan was my penpal in 1963 when I was a young girl living in Colon, Michigan. I was in the 4th grade at the time and for some reason, her mailing address has always remained in my memory, Joan Friesen / 14 Thackeray Ave, Winnepeg 22, Manatoba. Oddly enough, 53 years later, I find her here and am saddened to her of her passing. My sincere condolences to her family and loved ones. I'm sure she had a wonderful life and will be missed. - Posted by: Debi (Hochstetler) Bodett (Penpal) on: Mar 12, 2016

  • Growing up I always wanted a big sister. Although, my Mom had to pass away first, my Dad had to meet Joan's Mom & get married first. I finally got my wish in August of 1985. Joan was the best big sister I could ever have hoped for. She was loving, kind & accepting from the very first time we met. She never treated me like a "step-sister", we were always just regular sisters! Her hugs were the absolute best and the love she gave us all unconditionally will always be remembered. When I met my future husband, she instantly treated him like family and when our children were born, she was "awesome auntie Joan". Her infectious laugh, her smile, and her love will be memories that we will never forget. Joan, we know that you've earned your halo here on earth, now go enjoy your angel wings! We loved you then & we always will. - Posted by: Vera Siemens-Neufeld (sister) on: Jun 09, 2014
