GORDON H. STEWART Peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2014 Gordon Stewart passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 85 years. Gord is survived by his wife of 58 years Madeline (Peggy); three daughters, Diane Siewert (Dan), Carol Schaap (Chris) and Sandy De Simone (Rob); six grandchildren, Kara Siewert, Cullen Siewert, Jennine Deckert, Sam Deckert, Alex De Simone and Danielle De Simone; one brother Douglas Stewart and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Robert James Stewart; mother Isabella and sister Alberta May Jennings and her husband Frank. Gord lived in (and loved) the St. James area for his entire life. As a young man he became a member of the Deer Lodge Tennis Club where he made many life-long friends. He worked for the Schumacher McKenzie Company as an electrician for many years. He spent a number of years in the north working on the construction of radar stations, schools, nursing stations and hospitals. Eventually he made his way to Norway House which is where he met Peggy. He worked for Griffin Canada from 1959 - 1991, starting as an Electrician and working his way up to become Plant Manager; a job he enjoyed for the last 10 years of his career. While working for Griffin he travelled to Europe, South Africa and South America. After retiring Gordon worked as a Management Representative for the Manitoba Labour Board for 14 years. Gord enjoyed many activities but he was happiest while spending time with his family. Together they went camping and travelled by car to many locations across Canada and the USA. In later years he enjoyed going on cruises with Peggy, golfing with the St. James Seniors and curling with the Deer Lodge Seniors. He was also a proud member of the Western Canada Aviation Museum. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Wolfgang Heidenreich for being such a good friend and neighbour and for being there when Gord needed him most. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to CancerCare Manitoba would be greatly appreciated by the family.
