Date of Passing: Jun 14, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNA MARIE REICH It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on June 14, 2014 surrounded by the love of her family. Mom leaves to mourn her passing 10 children, Linda (Barry), Irene, Frank, Charmaine (Guy), Dwight (Shawna), Alvin, Roger (Janice), Anne (Bruce), Doreen, Penny (Scott); her brother Alvin Church, sister Shirley Christiansen; sisters-in-law Marge Sawchuk, Anne Neiser, Doreen Stefaniuk (Harry), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. She also leaves a cherished legacy of 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Verna was predeceased by her loving husband Adam (1994); son Wayne (2013); her parents John and Christina Church; her brothers Billy Church, Howard Church; sisters Marge Neiser and Madeline Church; Adam's parents Frank and Edith Reich; brothers-in-law Harold Neiser, Clarence Neiser, Arvin Neiser, Leonard Singbeil, Mike Sawchuk, Svend Christiansen, and sisters-in-law Helen Church, Irene Singbeil and Violet Neiser. Mom was born in Shaunavon, SK on September 26, 1931. Her family moved to Rutland, BC in 1945. There she met and married Adam Joseph Reich on May 23, 1953. Prior to her marriage she worked in the orchards and packing houses in the Okanagan Valley. Mom was an amazing "stay at home" mom looking after her 11 children. She loved baking (her homemade bread is famous), gardening, reading novels, listening to music, embroidery, cross stitching, doing puzzles, watching movies (favourite movie was the Golden Compass), but most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom lived independently until her final months in Betel Nursing Home in Selkirk. We would like to thank the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and Betel Nursing Home for the kindness and care given to our mother. A funeral service to celebrate Mom's life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Selkirk, Manitoba with interment to follow at the Selkirk Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Our Mom had a heart of gold, always giving and never expecting anything in return. She will be missed by all. We love you Mom. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Truly saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Reich. I didn't know her personnally but knew a "few" of her children growing up in Tyndall. My sincerest and heartfelt sympathy to the entire family, especially Irene, Charmaine, Dwight and Roger. I remember a conversation I had with Roger; we were discussing the renovations on his parents home and I was so impressed by the generosity and the true expression of how much he loved and respected her. Her children would do anything for her. I know you will miss her tremendously. My kindest and warmest thoughts are with you all. - Posted by: Jan Thorarinson () on: Jun 18, 2014

I know Verna's Daughter, Irene. As she is my teacher, friend & mentor. I work at home where Verna was staying. The few times I worked with her were wonderful. Verna was a very kind lady, I really liked working with her. She will be missed dearly. I'll miss her heart warming smile, and her kind ways. She was wonderful to work with, she was very polite and a very respectable woman. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Taylor Christie (CareGiver) on: Jun 17, 2014
