ALEXANDER (STUART) DUNLOP Peacefully on June 14, 2014, just short of his 84th birthday, Stuart went to be with his Lord and Saviour. He passed away at home with family at his side following a brief battle with cancer. Dad will be lovingly remembered by Frances, his beloved wife of 62 years, his son Robert (Lynne) Lindsay Dunlop (Trevor), Lisa (Ryan) Boughton; daughters, Hilary (Bill) Walmsley - Christopher (Dana), Jason; Dorothy (John) Wiens - Jeffery, Ian; Nancy (Mike) Reling - Matthew (Angie), Stephanie; six and a half great-grandchildren, his sister Alleyn Mennell (Bob); and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents, John and Florence (nee Nurse); his brother Ian and his "partner in crime," Chris Garry. Dad was born in Winnipeg and married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, in June 1952. Their love for each other and God only grew stronger as the years passed which provided a strong foundation for everything else in their life and their children's lives. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Winnipeg. "Stu" worked 38 years for the Canadian National Railway gaining experience in many aspects of the operation first in Fort Rouge, then in Transcona retiring as a Carman in 1986. He was a hard worker all his life, respected as one who always took people as they came, never prejudging them. He volunteered for St. John Ambulance for many years. After retirement he joined the Vintage Locomotive Society (Prairie Dog Central Railway) and was a Life Member in recognition of his contribution to the preservation of this century old railway. With Dennis, Ken and the rest of the "coach gang" he shared his knowledge in words and action still climbing in and under coaches "at his age." Being active almost to the end, Dad's routine included joining Diane, Jan, Al and his other swimming buddies at Bonivital Pool every weekday morning at 6:00 a.m., then having coffee with friends before returning home to make breakfast for himself and Mum. Once a month he would join Peter, Tony and the rest of the boys for lunch. Dad could go anywhere and there would be someone he knew! His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, helping whoever needed it. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a true friend, a knowledgeable railway man, a proud Scotsman prone to a wee bit of mischief, and a good sense of humour. A memorial service in celebration of Stuart's life will be held, Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard with Pastor Arden Boville officiating. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many family and friends who expressed their love to Dad these past few weeks. Also to Dr. Daeninck (SBGH), Dr. Ogaranko, nurse Eleanor and the CancerCare staff (VGH), as well as Monique and the Palliative Care Team. Each step of this four month journey and the ability to keep Dad at home was made easier because of your compassion and caring not only for Dad but for Mum and the rest of us also.
