VIRGINIA OLIVE LIGHTFOOT (GUEST) September 16, 1932 - June 13, 2014 It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to an amazing, strong willed, beautiful lady. Virginia was peacefully taken into the hands of God, surrounded by her loving family and her husband Johnny on the night of June 13. Virginia was most commonly known by the nickname "Pet" with her friends and family. "Pet" was the fourth child born to Morton and Florence Guest in Kenora, ON. She was proud of her heritage, and loved to reminisce about her childhood. She was predeceased by her sisters "Bobbie" (Helen Lusignan), "Tot" (Florence Young and husband Art), Shirley-Anne Marriot and husband Fred and her brother "Mac" (Joseph Guest). Pet is survived by her brother "Bud" Morton Guest and wife Shirl and her sister-in-law Eva Guest. Johnny and Pet met in Winnipeg in the summer of 1952, fell in love and were married shortly thereafter on December 12. They were married for 61 great years, raised a family, and put many miles on their vehicles sight seeing around the Kenora and Lac Du Bonnet areas. In the early years of marriage they resided in a home on Brazil St. in the north end of Winnipeg. Pet loved the old neighborhood! Years later, they bought "The Land" and built their dream home out by Oak Hammock Marsh. Pet also loved to bake and sew, she was a great seamstress. She loved to play her guitar and could be heard singing or humming to a familiar tune. The greatest joy in Pet's life was her family. Johnny and Virginia were blessed with five children, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren to date, as well as many nieces and nephews. Pet was an amazing mom, always supportive, always caring, always giving. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She leaves to mourn her passing, her eldest son John and his three children Kevin, Jason (Rena) and Jennifer; son David (Robbie) and his children Michelle (Dave) and Lisa (Rob); son Jeffrey and his children Bruce, Christopher and Dale; her daughter Darlene; and her youngest son Wayne (Esther) and their children Wayne Jr., Brent (Kaitlyn), and Tanya. Grandma adored her grandbabies and was so excited with each new addition to the family! Her 15 great-grandbabies always made her smile, and brought so much joy to her day. Everyone will greatly miss the large family celebrations that grandma so loved, especially Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving! She never forgot a birthday, including her extended family and friends!!! She once said, "once you are family....and loved....you are always family! There are no words that can take away our pain, but her love and the strength we all inherited from her will help us learn to walk through life without her! In her last moments of life, she was able to overcome her weakness, open her eyes, hand in hand with her husband, she responded, "I love you too"! A celebration of life will be held at the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. on Saturday, June 21 at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery, and a reception lunch with memory sharing and story telling will take place at Riverwood Square, 1778 Pembina Highway following the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.
